Is this thing stock?
« on: April 10, 2006, 06:34:24 PM »
I was scrounging around and found this.  I've never seen one before, but I'm way, way out of the loop on new bikes.  Is this a stock retro-bike or did someone customize something?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-Honda-CB-CB50R4_W0QQitemZ4630145619QQcategoryZ80647QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I copied one of the pictures for those with e-bay locked out.

Yes, it's for real

Honda made them for limited release as a retro bike

The only one I have seen was at a vintage race at Mosport a few years back

It looks pretty neat, real old school race bike

That is amazing.  Awesome.  I am in love.  I would buy that right now and pay whatever he wanted.  Of course, I don't have the money, but THAT bike trips my trigger.

Holy God, that is awe-inspiring.

Ya snooze ya loose.  When I posted it was up for $1.00 (like it was gonna stay there, ha!).  2 hours later I see it's above $1,700 now. I should have bid the buck just to say it was mine for a couple of minutes.

Me thinks anything under 500cc is just silly  :-\. But then again I am the best part of 300lbs So I would say this monkey needs no football.  ;)

Yeah, those are some of the coolest things on wheels, IMO. Made the pilgrimage to the local dealer when they came out, just to get an eyeful. Nobody else in the shop "got" it. Go figure.

And I'd be floored if the Ebay one went for anywhere near $1700. IIRC, they retailed for somewhere around 5-6 grand.

But yeah, too bad it's a 50. And too bad it's not street legal.

If I was king, Honda would make a bike like that in the 250-400 cc neigborhood. Fifty or sixty hp, maybe 300 pounds... yum.

Pity about the front disk, though. Looks completely out of place to me and somewhat spoils the look. Bike like that needs a twin leading-shoe drum, IMO.

Thassit Tom, if it aint a 750, it aint #$%*. (which is an interesting statement that literally means quite the opposite, but don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger..........) I also am the worst part of 300 pounds, so I don't like the idea of riding something that weighs less than me, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I would say no - it's not stock, but is fairly close (exhausts, lights, air filter?)

The Honda Dream 50 was sold here in about 97/98 in very limited numbers.  I rode one around a car park a couple of years back - cool.

They sell every now and then on eBay UK for about £2500

Here's what they looked like:

I'd wanna see a 250 four or, even better, six.  Rev to 22,000+ and weigh next to nothing.  No plastic crap either, naked.

That stree-legal Dream is REALLY making me happy in my pants.

I think that little dream frame could use a CBX motor  :o Now really a CBX with that styling would be one serious machine  ;D

I believe it is stock. There's one just like it hanging on the wall behind the owner's desk at Action Motorcycles here in Victoria, B.C.

Oh yeah. That would be just fine with me too!

The bike in the pic is stock for America.

Didin't know they offered a street legal version in England. Cool.

It gets me, though. When I think of Britain, I think of a country all but strangled under laws and officiousness. Yet you blokes get all the cool bikes. (There was a time I'd have given my left nut for a 250 Aprilia...)

Of course, I do live in California. We're not even allowed to buy Royal-Enfields here.

Well when they are collectable they are collectable reguardless of size. Nonetheless it is a nice looking bike. If I could afford it it would be in my collection.

It looks like the 50cc road racer which were about in the late 60's It had a 12 speed gearbox (YES 12 SPEED) and I remember them going down the straight at Darley Moor Circuit changing gear every 50 yds to stay in the power band. I believe the official works No. was CR110.

Yep, it's a new production unit. They had a street legal Dream 50 back in 1997 for domestic market. Some were smuggled to US. I love to get one, especially since here in Las Vegas, under-50cc units don't require registeration nor insurance so it'll be a great gas-saving ride.
