tire changing and a bead popping sound question
« on: April 11, 2006, 08:34:20 AM »
Trying to install my new avons on CB750 spoke rims and I'm having a host of unexpected issues.  I have the first new tire mounted on the now clean and true rim, but when I fill the tube I don't hear the sound of beads popping into place that I am used to hearing.  I have mounted tires on spoked rims before and I just can't remember if they make the same sound as tubeless tires.

Do I need to hear the same "pop pop?"

If I do, I'm in trouble.  I've tried every trick I know to get the beads to seat.

I think tubed tires don't neat to seat in the same way. . .  but it would really suck to get this one wrong.

It won't pop like a tubeless tyre as there doesn't have to be a seal between the tyre and the rim.

My trick for seating the tyre was to inflate to about 60psi after application of washing-up liquid. Once seated, deflate to the correct pressure.

If you look round the bead there should be a raised line that needs to be equally distant from the rim all round
