Hello!  My name is Thom Williams and I picked up a 77 CB550f in fair shape last weekend off craigslist for my 17 year old daughter and I to rehab.  We have been talking about doing a bike project for years and I realized I don't have long left before she heads off to college.  I have a couple of newer bikes in the garage and I am looking forward to digging into this bike and turning it into a classic standard commuter.   I have to wait for my daughter to return from a spring break trip since I promised we would do it together.   (Ok, so I have done a little polishing and cleaning already).   I have ordered OEM grips (it has OLD, nasty foam grips) and the clymer manual to supplement the shop manual I downloaded from here.

First up, cleaning and sealing the tank and then getting her running (just to be sure she will) then a tear down for frame powder coat and paint back to either the candy presto red or candy sword blue from 77.  (as near as I can tell beneath several layers of rattle can paint this one was blue off the lot)

I have named her "Eliza Doolittle" since she is pretty rough and we plan on turning her into a lady.   I have already learned a bunch by lurking her and reading the FAQs and looking at the project threads and look forward to participating more once we get started.

Welcome. There are some Atlanta area Folk I met last month on the  SOHC relay!
That 550 looks like a great start.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forums, Thom.  You've found a valuable resource.
I started my project in Macon, but I'm in Tampa now.

Good luck with your project - let us know how it goes in the Project Shop forum if you'd like.
