membership stats
« on: April 11, 2006, 07:24:31 AM »
After a year or so of participation in this motorcycle forum, I've been amazed by the growth over such a short time. recently as the number of members listed in the stats area of the homepage reaches 2000 (when I joined, there were around 400) I've been inclined to notice. what I've seen instead is a number that fluctuates. do folks un-join this group? what accounts for the varience in membership numbers.

many thanks,
hym

I believe the forum gods purge the inactives every so often.  But being a lowly plebe, this is only conjecture.

The variance comes because we get lots (sometimes hundreds) of people who sign up for an account and never activate or activate the account and never re-visit the site for more than a year.  I periodically purge these dormant accounts.  I think many of these folks find us through a web search, sign up, and then figure out that SOHC/4 has nothing to do with the bikes they're interested in.  You don't need to create an account to read most of the forums; just to post.

A somewhat different, though related issue is the SOHC/4 Owners Club registration, now standing at 3434 members, which never gets purged.  Members retain their number forever.  Some may decide that they don't want to be listed in the directory, but I still keep old bike and member information on file.

And it is very rare. I think it says a lot about the membership here.

You may be odd Dusty, but you don't break the rules.

There aren't many - just the usual (courtesy and decency etc).

If/when you step over the line we'll be in touch.  8) ;D

I like the look of those early DOHC bikes.

Wouldn't sell my 500 though.

Funny, I never got into the DOHCs from 1979 on. Guess my "time" with the girls was 1969 to around 1975 and the short blip  in 1979 when I got the CBX. But I guess the best times were the 69-75 as I have the best memories form the SOHCs.

I have preobably gotten close to the line once or twice but I usually take care of the issue myself before and mediation is needed! Spats are going to happen though. I have seen others happen here too. I think it is good though sometimes as it reminds us all of the differences we have, which is a good thing. Keeps us all coming back.

         James, Getting a DOHC won't work either. I had an 80' CB750K, 3 CB450DOHC & 1 CL450K6
DOHC  when I joined and they let me in. Uh oh, maybe they didn't know. Now I'm in trouble.

On my laptop...  I've run seriously short of time, so my project to get it back online is much delayed.  I had to change the scripts I was using to generate membership pages, search pages, etc and the internet isn't as friendly as it once was, so I need to hide more information than I used to.  The new system will provide a way to send someone email, so people can still make contact with other members.

In the meantime, there is a form on the website that allows people to register and I'm running about 40+ registrations a month since I reactivated the club registrations.  I don't know where these SOHC/4 Owners are coming from.

Almost makes you think honda is making them again. All these that are coming out of the woodwork have so low miles usually.

You could probably dig up 40 new members a month just by emailing the successful buyers on eBay (UK) of these bikes...

Hmmm, I might try that to get the UK ride group membership up.
