Carb Sync port stripped
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:14:15 PM »
Has this happened to anyone? the vacuum port on one of my carbs is apparently stripped. The screw just kept spinning when I went to reinstall. I don't think I overtightened because it just never got tight. I think there is one thread left at the very end because I finally got the screw to go in without the washer. However, now I don't know what I will do next time I have to sync. I don't want to permanently ruin the carburetor body.

I was waiting to ask how to fix this, but I may have stumbled on to a solution. Can anyone tell me what exactly this part on Z1 Enterprises is? It says it's a permanent mount vacuum gauge adapter. Is this something I could mount in the vacuum port so that I don't risk messing things up next time I have to sync? Any explanation on how it works would be great.

It looks like that would work fine, but doesn't that part have to thread on as well?

I have one thread left that I can probably screw it into. I figure that one thread and some liquid gasket should hold up fine.  I just don't want to push my luck any farther by using those threads any more than I have to.

I've searched around and feel stupid for having to ask this. How does this work? I mount it to the carburetor, I get that. But how do I connect my vacuum gauges later? I can't tell from the picture.

nice find, I'm going to get myself a set and give them a try. i always seem to have fits getting my sync tool pipes to thread into my carbs. only issue i see with this adapter is the difficulty you might have getting to it when you need to hookup the hoses.

It works the same as the temporary adapters you currently have, except these come with a rubber cap that seals the opening when you're not using them.

YEAH!...liquid gasket one of these in.  i got my set from Motion Pro a while back.  they work slick.  just leave them in and put the little rubber hat over when not in use...slide them off and put on your carb gauge tubes and you're synching.... 8)  no more burnt knuckles or dropped screws

Ok, I think I got it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Screw this thing into the carb. Take the brass tubes off of my sync gauges and instead the rubber tube from the guages just slides over the spigot on the adapter? Put the rubber cap on it when not in use? If it makes a difference, I have the cheap dial gauges with the brass fittings.

It would make my day and probably save me hours if this means I don't have to search for the #3 carb screw that I drop down between the carbs every single time I try to reinstall.
