Would lazer spark plugs work in a SOHC bike?
« on: April 24, 2011, 06:51:40 AM »
Just read about these new spark plugs.

If they caused a more efficient burn would they be ok for these old engines?

Dunno, sounds like you would have to have a pretty sizeable power source to properly power them.

Also, you may blow your head off reading a plug chop.

Dont see why not. I would trust NGK.

After working a Honda parts counter, I can say that I've seen "the latest and greatest" in spark plugs before, and nothing seems to work better the the stock NGK plugs.

A lot less power apparently, fibre optic technology is used . Also, {after reading a bit about these}, they are able to split the lazer up to send it too multiple places in the combustion chamber making for a more efficient burn of the fuel, resulting in more power and better fuel economy.....I will look a bit further into these.....

Denso's, I have had a better experience with them than the NGK's.

Not much difference between stock NGKs and Densos.  I'm talking about Platinums, Splitfires and other exotics.

On ngk's website, I don't see anything other then copper and iridium for these bikes. Hopefully they add the laser but maybe it is just not cross listed yet.

Huge.  Champions are only good in Triumphs and lawnmowers.

What is better about the NGK?  I  don't know much about the brands.

I think it's just the metallurgy.  Champions just don't like Japanese machinery.  It might have something to do with Pearl Harbor.

My Honda lawnmowers obviously take the NGKs, but I've never experienced a constant issue of Champions failing in a B&S engine.

I always stick with the stock plugs after a bad experience in a car I had.  I changed the stock plugs in a Mercury Tracer we had and installed a set of Bosch platinum ones.  When it was time to change them, one would not come out.  Turns out they are just a little longer than stock.  The carbon buildup on the thread kept it in place.  With a aluminum head you can't just twist them out without pulling the threads with them.  Never again.  Just my experience.   >:(

I ordered a set of NGK D7EV plugs to replace the champions.  Thanks for the advice guys.
