350 cam chain adjustment
« on: September 10, 2005, 08:34:19 PM »
went to adjust my cam chain today.followed all the steps in the book.but when I loosened the lock nut the adjustment screw(or plunger) does not move.I pushed on it and tapped it lightly with the end of a ratchet but it just seems like it is frozen solid. It seems to me that I should be able to move it in and out while pushing on it.Am I wrong?

On the CB350F, the lock bolt screws into the block and the lock nut (which you apparently loosened) keeps the lock bolt from loosening.  Once the lock nut was loose, did you try to loosen the lock bolt by turning it counter-clockwise?  Suggest you use a liberal amount of penetrating oil and let it soak for a while.  The bolts are rather fragile and can break off in the block if they are siezed.  There's a spring-loaded plunger inside the block that the lock bolt bears against.  If the plunger is "free", the camchain should self-adjust when the lock bolt is loosened.  You might have to take off the access plug (up above the lock bolt area) and apply gently pressure on the plunger using a thin punch to help the adjuster work.

gonna try to tackle this in the next hour or so... any help?  we're talking about the bolt that has a downward angle right above the adjuster?

Yep, that's the one. From my experience it isn't gentle pressure either, even with a good condition adjuster/hinge it still requires a pretty firm push downwards. Do a search on here for CB400F camchain adjustment- it's the same process & there's a thread with useful diagrams.
