74 CB750 kickstart won't recoil
« on: April 09, 2011, 09:03:39 AM »
Hello all,

Just like the topic says. I rebuilt this engine and it runs fine, but the kick starter will not return to upright. It will turn the engine over but I have to bring the lever back up by hand. I must have not locked the spring into position. My question is can I get to it by dropping the oil pan and oil pump, or do I need to split the cases to access the spring? Based on my rebuild pics it is on the shaft. Maybe it bound up and broke when I first kicked it over?

Thanks...

It will require pulling the engine, flip it over and remove the lower case. When you install the kicker, the spring needs to be "wound up" a bit and you likely skipped that step. easy to do.

I did mine recently that's how i know. had to ask the forum for help. There's a trick to it, but not hard.
