Bummer! Great parts source in Seattle area is gone.
« on: April 06, 2011, 04:02:54 PM »
I called Bob Paradis from Bob's salvage and he moved to Portland. He had to get rid of his recycle cycle parts collection most of it went for scrap. He had tons of stuff in bins you wouldn't believe. This sucks on a huge scale. He was a another victim of the recession as he had his house foreclosed on. He had just lost his lease on his shop in Georgetown just a couple years back and moved everything to his house then.

If anybody in our area has another source for used classic bike parts (besides Bent Bike of course) let me know cause I need one.

I live in Georgetown and I walk past his old shop all the time. I got my bike after he moved out, but the antique store that moved in to his space still keeps the BSA, NGK etc stickers in the window. That's a shame that I never got to do business with him.

That guy was crazy. I loved him, though.
There are some younger guys...god knows what they have at any given time.

a) north city vintage honda. Up in Lake City.
Good for parts if they have them.. and supplies most of the time. Their website is pretty good.

b) Twinline motorcycles.
These guys had that place right on Michigan and 1st for a bit.. but moved up onto the other side of the Beacon.

Yeah I wish Bob could've donated his stash to one of those other guys but he said he scrapped most of it. Kind of a waste but you gotta do what you gotta do. I've been in contact with Northcity I'll have to make a run up there sometime soon. They do have new supplies too.

I just met Bob recently, actually. He's working for a guy here in Portland (well, Oregon City) who parts stuff out on ebay. I'm rebuilding a CB750 engine for the guy (the thread in the hi-perf section regarding RC ENG parts), and Bob has run money or parts over a few times. Nice guy.

Was Bob in the building that used to house the remnants of Dewey's Cycle Shop.

I used to look at the Triumphs at Dewey's in the late 50's !!!

Same thing happened here in Cranbrook.  Old time wrecker at least as far a japanese bikes go, finally decided to call it quits.  he said that he couldn't compete with all the e-bay traders.  He must have had 300 bikes in the yard.  I was able to get lots of parts for my builds from him for next to nothing, as long as i took the parts off myself.  When he decided to clean out the lot, he phoned me to invite me to the sale before the stuff got piled into dumpsters and scraped.  There was a row of honda 50's and 90's, probably 15 bikes in total.  i asked him about a few of them, not that i had any real interest in them but thought i would build a nice mail box out of a few.  nope, sold all to someone in Calgary.  My loss.  i did buy 2-  550's with the idea of making one complete bike.  Between the two bikes there is enough parts to build a decent bike.  I got the two bikes and five boxes of NOS honda parts for $60.00.
the wrecker in Trail also suffered the same fate.  owner got tired of trying to deal with guys that would agrue about the price of a piece saying " I can get one on e-bay for $xx.
We can thank e-bay for forcing the local boys out of business!

I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!

I don't think there was any competition from the the guys on ebay, they want way too much for there old crap. Including the guy in Oregon. tell Bob we miss him up here inSeattle! Last fall I bought two perfect 1976 cb550K headlight ears with reflectors for $10 from Bob. On ebay they couldn't be touched for under $50 and that was without rerflectors. I found a bunch of little parts you just don't find anywhere except a fairly complete parts bike. His yard will be missed. Ebay is a good place to source NOS parts but used go for way too much $$$ IMHO.

gerhed yeah that was Bob's shop. He lost his lease when Dewey quit. He moved all his stuff to his house above Gtown. Dewey's will be missed as well. If Twinline fills the void I feel sorry for all vintage bike owners here in Seattle. We will be completely on our own. I'm glad I figured out how to fix my own bike. But now parts will be an issue.

never been to twinline but there is a scathing review of them,I think on this site.Best thing you can do is fix it yourself, thats what i do now.got tired of paying a lot of $$$ to people who dont know what they are doing.I am not green anymore,I'm seasoned. ;)

yeah check out the reviews of Twinline on YELP.COM and click on the filtered ones. Not good. Happy to have found this board. So far this and the manual are the only source of info I've needed yet.

Twinline:
open wallet
remove money
go get more.
repeat process.

To bad Bob has closed up...  he was a cool guy... he had everything!  I saw him up at tsawwassen last year... seemed like he was pretty happy...

that's too bad...

Tell British Bob we'll miss him up here.

The first part I bought from Bob was a Honda NC50 Express Engine when he was located in Georgetown.  :)  Before he left Seattle I spent one afternoon with Bob and watched the junkers cut up and toss many of his bikes into their junk truck.  :o  I had tears in my eyes watching great bikes go to scrap, it was a slaughter.  :'(  I went through his collection of bike parts and removed as many CB550 parts as I could find before they were gone forever.  ;D Bob sold me a 1976 CB550 and I was able to restore it from parts found in his collection.  :) He was also a great help answering questions about problems I was having with the bike. When I needed to restore the controls on the right handlebar he gave me the controls from a Honda 750 which worked perfectly.   8)

I wish I'd have known...  I would have bought a bunch of stuff to help him out...   Not that my garage could take all he had...  but I'd make a dent..

I've been to his house a few times....  I'd ask him .....do you have this part..  he'd say yeah... somewhere out here.... we'd grab a couple of wrenches, pliers..screew drivers and run though 50-60 bikes... but he'd have it...

he's awesome that way.
