Gene, the center stand is made from tubeing.  Once you have it off, you are gonna feel cheated by how light it is.  On the other hand, your bike has 4 into 4's.  Ditching those is like 30lbs. but you would be crazy to do it...so not much point in messing with stuff like the center stand...especially as I am not really picturing you spending a lot of time out on Mullholland Highway.
If it works good, it looks good...

A cosmetic mod I didn't think would save much weight- the piece I cut off the front of the rear fender weighs almost a lb. Bob

I never checked but was hoping that the duel set up with drilled and thinned rotors from member Godffery would yield about the same weight as the original single rotor. Does anyone have any info on the difference in the Godffery rotors vs. stock weight?

This whole thread reminds me of Smokey Yunick and his rule "interpretations" in the NASCAR world. Here is a guy that built a 7/8 scale car to save weight and acid dipped his body panels to make them paper thin. What a genius!

I believe Goddfrey is claiming his drilled and thinned weigh %60 of stock, so with 2 you are gonna be 20% heavier...then the calipers are heavy too...did you get his phenolic pistons too?

Yes, phenolic pistons as well. Sounds like with the extra caliper & bracket I'm a little over stock weight but probably not by much.

My bike has lost its center stand, giant tailight tower, it has a shorter exhaust. I think it has shorter 550 forks on it. It has lost a little weight for sure. Probably didn't make a bit of difference performance wise.

You have that right, I'm not doing hella twisties. The extra weight probably helps on the freeways. Just thinking out loud.

If you also flip the fork legs and calipers around to the back side, it will make the steering lighter. The downside (as known by modern riders) is that the forks gain stiction while braking heavily because of the applied angle of the forces against the legs, and the pucks get wetter in the rain. This was a popular roadrace mod in the day...

I have seen bikes like that but never new what the advantage was, thanks for that.

The triple tree spaces the fork legs forward of the stem axis. Having the relatively heavy calipers at the rear of the legs gets them closer to the turning axis of the stem. This reduces the moment of inertia of the steered mass. Probably almost noticeably.

I have my center-stand off and I keep it in the garage. It takes about 45 seconds to put it on for times I need the back wheel off the ground. Make sure you tighten the bolts that hold the stand on the frame or else those brackets will bend over time....ask me how I know ;)

starting at the top - alloy mx bars, one small mirror, mini headlight, smaller led indicators,  mini speedo, no tacho, oil and high beam lights only (prob in top of headlight) magura racing m/cyl, losing most of the switches to replace with one smaller block, plastic MX tank, plastic MX guards, XR200 seat, side covers replaced with alloy race number plates, mini endure tail-light, no centre stand, prob replace side stand with alloy one, larger (but lighter) Braking 4 piston front caliper, single braided line, lighter alloy bodied shocks to go on, much speed hole drilling to be done in final stages of build, alloy rear brake stay rod, 4 into 1 with alloy muffler, no airbox, pod filters
on the other hand i'm a fat bastard so its all relative isn't it
here it is partly done (much to go yet)

so am I, I was wisely counselled against a survival/rat/camo theme, the plan is to actually get it looking as close to a factory monster trail bike, I have Yoda to thank for this (or Tex as he's otherwise known)

todays added lightness purchase, they actually work better than you'd think, weigh close to nothing and fit in with the trailbike theme quite nicely

I'm sure we went over some of these before but to refresh,,
Before you ride, just take a big $#!7. And that handful of change out of your pocket.  All those keys aren't helping but then that ignition switch ain't needed either, or the bracket. One piece rec/reg?  A debit card instead of a wallet. Small enough pants and you don't need a belt. When's the last time you got a haircut? Run er a qt low on oil too, them super stock drag racers plan to run out of oil right at the finish line. If you let both of your tires down to 32 lbs from 38, that's 12 pounds right there.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Deadthread revisited...

First and foremost is the stock exhaust. Ive read stock weighs 30lbs. My 4into1 weighs maybe 10 lbs. Thats 20lbs right off the top. Centerstand -Mine didnt have one when I got it and dont need it. As 754 mentioned it blocks up quickly. Turn signals. With just those parts Ive probably taken close to 30 lbs off the bike. Im going to replace the tail light assembly and the front fender too. All this is primarily for asthetics and practicality (I wasn't going to look for the original exhaust) but it does reduce significant weight. Will it go faster? - a little. Does it feel lighter when riding- Never rode a stock one but I bet it does. I was looking at the stock footpeg brackets-they look heavy. Wish I was a machinist-I could have a field day, lol!Bob

Update. Add to this - removed grab bar, aluminum rear sprocket, chopped rear fender, lighter tail light and just ordered this aluminum rear brake strap. Got to be 40lbs off now. Bob

The biggest hurdle for me to get over transitioning from dirt to street (I've ridden dirt bikes my whole life, my 750 is my first street bike) was the weight difference. My CRF450 is ~230 pounds soaking wet, with close to 60HP on tap. You can just throw it around, while my 750 is over double that weight. The way the bikes handle and respond to inputs is completely different.

A good weight saver is to skip late pizza and loads of tasty pasta.
Beef burger or just a 300 grams steak with green stuff plus eventual chili work fine. A good beer will help the transportation.
I'm sure that plenty of riders on this forum should get a better life and riding with 10-15kg less ;)
