Completed Cafe 78 550 - Thank You!
« on: April 14, 2011, 12:02:53 PM »
I have almost completed my 78 550 cafe project.  All it needs is to have the carbs sync'd.  This was a $300 find on Craigslist which had sat in a garage for 13 years.  Many of you are extremely knowedgeable and this forum has been invaluable in getting answers to difficult issues/questions and finding parts to complete a project like this.  Thanks for all of the help.

Nice! I like that you left the 4-4 pipes on it.

Thanks guys.  It was a long 6 months.

In case anyone was wondering, the rear cowl is an early 70's rusted Yamaha gas tank ($20 from Rancho Cordova Motorcycle Dismantlers) which I cut in half.  It was then welded ($80) to a piece of metal sheet ($8) which I had pre-bent and cut on my workbench.  The rear portion was then professionally polished ($60).  The leather for the seat is from a men's 3/4 length jacket which I purchased from a second hand store for $30.  For $200, I think the rear cowl turned out pretty well.
