Topic: CB750K8 gas tank lid - what is this o-ring?

I was looking at the parts breakdown at servicehonda and noticed this part #23 which is listed as an 0-ring 23x2. I don't think I have that o-ring in my gas tank lid and can't figure out where it should go or the purpose? It is certainly not the gasket on the bottom of the filler cap which part #15 and is a flat fibre washer, not an o-ring.

Does anybody know what part #23 is? Thanks

I too have a CB750K8 and do not recognize that either. I wonder if it fits in the latch somewhere to help prevent the lid from ratting? Mine will get a buzz going at the right RPM, if I place my hand over it the buzzing will stop. Doesn't happen very often, and opening up the rear spring (piece #16) puts more tension on the door that helped eliminate a lot of the door rattling on mine.

Ok thanks. From the orientation in the picture, it would seem to have something to do with the latch. Maybe like you say, to reduce vibration. Mine does not vibrate or at least I can't tell with the helmet on and the other noises it makes. Yours just purrrs right?

Mad Make a gasket out of an old inner tube to go around the round peg on the door latch need to be thin but snugs up the fit and stops the rattle

That sounds like a reasonable solution, I just might try that.

Cook I had a post but needed to make a change it has been a couple of years ago that I had to change the gasket on my filler cap and my memory oh well that is another story. I am not sure but I think I saw that o-ring under the gasket in line with the part you grab with your fingers. I have worked on so many bikes I could be thinking of another one. I looked at mine and don't see anything on the out side.

Mad That gasket worked for me also see if your spring is tight that grabs the round peg you can bend it a little to tighten it up I turn my key before closing to take the wear and tear off that plastic peg.
