How do you turn silver back to gold?
« on: April 11, 2006, 09:26:59 PM »
I know some don't like gold badges but I'll leave that debate for another day.
I like gold badges.

Does anyone know how I can turn my once gold tank badge back to gold?

The "A" in the picture show a feeble attempt at paint.

Thanks,
Scott

We found some Gold "chrome" paint in a rattle can. Apparently you spray the gold first, then spray over with matt black and go over if with VERY fine sandpaper (I seem to remember 2400 grit) to take the black off the gold. There was a post in here a few days ago.

As an interim "fix", I did my F2 badges by first beadblasting them to remove the old anodising and paint, then I etch primed them, painted them with a rattle can of Dupli-color metallic gold, then brushed the black back with a fine artist's brush and flat black model paint, sprayed the whole thing with 2 pack clearcoat, and they look pretty cool.

I did buy new badges, but mine looked so good, I never bothered to replace them, however, when I repaint the tank that Tim Kasper sent me all the way from Texas (thanks mate!) I'll put the new ones on. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I was talking to a guy in the UK a while back who had brass replicas made for his 550K3 "550FourK" sidepanel badge.  The process destroyed the originals and the cost about £15 each.

BTW the pic is the original - not the new!
