scotts oil filters
« on: April 12, 2006, 07:10:30 AM »
Hello everybody
Has anybody had any experience with these filters(www.scottsonline.com)? The literature describing them sounds great but at 79.00$ U.S. fairly pricy.
                   thank you very much

Sorry, no experience. Pricey, but interesting though it's the maker's claims (the pessimist in me). Will watch the thread for other opions or experience.

They certainly look the business, but at that price, they'd have to last the equivalent of 20 normal oil filter changes (that's 20years for  me)

While  I'm on the subject of expensive oil related products the oil coolers at www.eaglescall.com (look under KSM Enterprises) in conjunction with the filter should make your oil the cleanest, coolest and happiest oil in the world. Now if you can just decide between synthetic or fossil you should be all set for everthing.

If the engine were new, or freshly rebuilt, or really high performance, I'd consider looking into it more.  But after 30K miles on the clock, I think it's overkill.  With that level of reported filtration, it better have a ton of surface area or you'll be cleaning it every week (which on my 550 means dumping the oil anyway).  You may want to think about the pressure drop vs. stock (oil pump?) and loading rate (cleaning frequency?).
