Chapman Automotive drag bike.
« on: April 13, 2011, 07:27:10 AM »
Anybody know anything about this crew.
Seems they were into drag racing cars. A guy is trying to find info on a frame that he has, built by them for a CB750.

This is the first bit I found on them.

The Chapman Automotive Camaro was based out of Des Plains, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. The Out Of Site 2 was a complete shop car; the Chapman guys built the chassis and the engine in house. West Coast fuel racer Hank Clark drove this version of the car to the finals of the Bakersfield March Meet. The Chapman Automotive team later raced Top Fuel and built the Chicago Patrol Mustang II AA/FC in the mid-seventies before retiring from racing. Wow, now thats a piece of history. An old laydown chassis. Not many of those left.

I don't think i'd want to ride it though and i've always prided myself on being able to ride anything. Great conversation piece.

I remember Chapman Automotive from my top fuel car days. I remember seeing the Chicago Patrol rocket funny car run too.

My name is Randy, I build Cafe style bikes and never got into drag bikes ...till now. I found this bike. Looking for any info I can get on this old drag bike. I know that Keith Robinson owned and raced it around 1975 to 79. He owned a Honda dealership called Precision Cycles in Pipersville, Pa. He raced a Honda cb305 and a Honda cb750 on a Chapman frame (this is the bike I have now). His bikes were orange and he ran at Atco, Cecil County and Maple Grove in B or C gas.

The 2nd owner was “Honda Joe” of PA. All I know about him is he laid the bike down and sold it to my friend Tom Anglescy from Trevous?? Pa in 1982. ANY help would be appreciated.

Welcome theracedude, you must be close to Billy (bellcow54) who's north of Atlanta.
Plenty of cafe racers on here to wet your apetite and a few of us drag race the 750s.
We just took to the track a few weeks ago and we're having a blast or we will be once we sort out a few niggles.
Here's a link to our thread at the time things got moving. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=61876.900
I'm sure you will find something about your bike or its riders on here.

So, i am in Cleveland Ga. 7 miles from the little freakish town of Helen, Ga.
Name is Randy
The engine is very built but truth is i will need to ask my buddy about the details. I understand vintage speed parts on hot rods but not drag bikes. I will try to post a pic of my just finished Cafe cb750 for the hell of it. NOPE, still to dumb to do it!

Cool Randy, you're just 30 minutes away from Billy if you need one anothers help at any time.
I do recall that you did post your name, my old brain or lack of one perhaps. ;D ;D ;D ::)
There's not a lot of difference in vintage hot rod and drag race parts, it depends on how much you can afford, how fast you want to go and how long you want the motor to last, the choice is yours.
