What length Braided Hose for 400/4 ?
« on: April 13, 2011, 03:55:55 AM »
Hi all,

I want to replace the existing rubber and copper pipe work and switch on my 400/4 and have a braided steel brake hose running from the master cylinder direct to the caliper.
Has anyone else done this and can remember the length I need to order? Also what fittings would I need to specify (I know its a banjo at the lever end, but at the caliper its a screw in thread - whats that called?)

Thanks
Neil

hi, i used a 71mm long hose, although my bike has tarozzi race clip ons fitted. when i ordered mine i let them know what MC i was using (non standard) and they worked out the banjo bolt size needed, and that i wanted to to go direct to the caliper and eliminate the solid pipe. ordered mine thorugh inox fastners in the uk.

That will eliminate the front brake light switch if you go from mc to caliper. What is your plan for a switch? And it would be a very long hose.   In PA that would not be legal unless the bike were vintage tagged...Larry

I thought so but the way I read your question it seemed like you wanted to go from mc to caliper, anyhow overall length of the upper hose is about 11 1/2.  Mine is on the bike and it is hard to get an accurate measure... Are you planning on eliminating the steel tube that goes from the lower hose to the caliper. If so, I can get you a fairly accurate measure as that is easily accessible...Larry

Thats kind of you thanks Larry!
So to confirm I will be going direct from MC to the caliper so I will be removing the solid pipe.

Thanks again

The total length of the hose from brake light union to caliper would be 22 to 23".  I have a similar setup on the 750 I just bought-stainless hoses from the mc to caliper. You will need a special adapter to connect the lower hose to the caliper.  I know Dennis Kirk has the adapter...Larry
