Body-filler'd side panels
« on: April 13, 2011, 08:54:10 PM »
Hey everyone,
I'm pretty sure the cracked sidepanel epidemic has hit everyone at least once - and those of us with pre-77 550K's aren't fortunate enough to have replacements available from Frankenstuff.  I had a discussion with a friend of mine the other day and went about closing all of the gaps/cracks with some simple epoxy, then throwing some Evercoat Tigerhair bodyfiller along the entire backside of the panels.  I was fairly generous with it, and even though it's not done curing yet, the panels really seem to have bolstered up already.  As a bonus, the back looks like a wookie.

What do you guys think?

my 76 750F model...I used kitty hair  filler after roughing up the whole inside surface with 80 grit paper to give better adhesion grip.  then on the outside I used pvc pipe cleaner and glue to weld the crack back together.  let the glue dry, sand, and fill imperfections with glazing putty, prime and then paint.  works.
