Bent rear rim on CB500; CB550 or CB500T compatible?
« on: April 13, 2011, 01:10:47 PM »
Local shop took a look at my 72 CB500 rear wheel and agreed its bent to the point that it has to be replaced. So my options would be to ask around town for a used wheel, get one from evilbay or get a OEM rim and respoke it to my wheel. I tried to see if a 76 CB750 wheel would mount but the drum assembly is too big. I'm having trouble finding a CB500 wheel but the 550 and 500T seem to be more prevalent. So does anyone know if any CB550 or CB500T rear wheel will mount to my 72 Cb500? Would it be better to just get a new rim and respoke or by a use wheel? thanks

A 550 wheel will fit fine.  Why not use the hoop from the 750 and just lace it to the 500 hub?

Well babbitsonline has a new Cb500 rim for $40, so i would probably use it if i decide to replace the rim. I'm leaning toward that alternative.

No luck on a decent Cb550 wheel on evilbay, but i could find one in town if i keep asking around. i;m just getting antsy to get this bike rolling soon.

just an update in case anyone is looking for a replacement rim for a cb450,cb500,cb550 and runs across this post.... the replacement rim # 42701-404-771 that many OEM honda dealers claim is in stock online, has been discontinued for the past 4 years! they will let you order and pay for it but later will send you an email letting you know they cant get it  :-\
