Lord knows I love Honda, but the early DOHCs were some ugly bikes, IMO.

And this fellow from Ebay took Honda's lead and ran with it.

That one is a real ugly duckling but, I've got one of those early DOHCers and I don't think they're
that bad, IMO. Mine is an 80' CB750K that I wouldn't mind if it was a CB750F but, I'm not complaining.
The price was right. A buddy of mine bought it for$250 (w/Wind Jammer IV,rear rack, helmet box and
4into 2 exhaust that was brazed) put an new air cleaner on it, cleaned the plugs and attempted to check out the carbs and decided, he needed something smaller. I trade him a 175cc enduro type bike (similar to the Yamaha CT1) and the 1st thing I did was to remove the dead weight (fairing, rack & box. Oh, yes it had & I removed a King & Queen seat) The 175 didn't cost me anything. Not a bad deal, eh?  Later on, Bill

These "custom" bikes, I will not call the choppers, are worthless. Only goodif you are going straight. While  Idont dig my pegs into the ground, I still like corners. I dont see how those junkers can even turn. I will give Jesse ! point, he does at least do some fabrication by hand and some of the painting is done in his shop. Which is better than the occrappers.

So I actually tuned into the OC Choppers show last night, first time in years. Ironically enough, this was a "vintage" show, with Sr. trying to put together a "retro" bike. If I could find a picture of what they ended up with, most of you would gag. These guys truly have no clue.

As a side note, they had an old Indian in the shop that they passed on to a specialist because they apparently couldn't figure out how to make it work.

Honestly, I'm impressed with some of the skills demonstrated on the show, like the welding and sheet metal forming. As far as actually working on motorcycles, ie. anything beyond unboxing parts and bolting them together, I really don't think they know what they're doing.

Noel, I'm sure I'm not the only one who agrees with you 200%!!
The reason I watched for a while, until I got a gut full of their fussing & fighting, was to see them actually built things from sheet metal or what ever.

And, for the record, I feel alot better knowing that they didn't mess with that Indian!!

i personally think Jesse James builds some nice looking bikes, and i don't know how advanced all of you are, but i can't do any of the stuff he can do with sheet metal, or pipes. it seems to me he's always been against the publicity, going down to mexico with kid rock where no one even knows who he is, altough there was a camera crew with him, it didn't look too scripted to me, and also if i remember correctly he built a new shop and didn't tell anyone where it was so he could get away from all the fans and media when he actually wanted to work. again, this is all my opinion, and i'm not sure i got all my facts right, but i'm a fan or jesse's work.

You are right about Jesse's new shop. He basically bought a new set of buildings , near his old shop, and kept it as low-key as possibile. They showed the interior of his shop in the last show he was on for Discovery. The one where he built some old-school inspired chopper. The shop had blood red floors with a huge WCC logo, murals, rando car stuff on the walls, etc..

I will give jesse credit, he can actually build , where OCC assembles...

Well, yeah, Jesse made his name with some cool bikes and can still turn them out. OTOH, he has kind of sold out and gone for the whole marketing thing. Mugs, T-shirts, kids toys, and yes, $50,000 RUB choppers. And you can catch him on -- I think -- Monster Garage, driving around in one of his million dollar supercars.

Of course, if people were paying me to put my name on mugs and t-shirts so I could afford million dollar supercars, I'd probably "sell out" in a heartbeat. Go figure.  :D

The ugliest bike I ever owned was a Bridgestone 175 DT. It was a real POS to boot. Especialy in the late 70's when the parts became unavailable. I ended up tossing mine in the land fiill back in Michigan because I could'nt get carb parts for it.
