321 bikes brought back to life by forum members.
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:05:33 AM »
Just curious to see how many bikes our forum is responsible for putting back on the road that would have rotted or ended up as parts on ebey.

I have revived 4 non runners 3 didn't have titles and now do. Thats just in the last 2 1/2 years.

Just 1 kinda. It was a runner when i got it. Tequila turned it into a parts bike. And sobriety turned it back into my 1 and only ever cycle.  8)

Just this one a '72 CB500K1.  It was my father-in-law's bike that he bought brand new in '72.  He put the Vetter Fairing on it in '75.  It has been sitting, non running, for about 20 years.  About 6 years ago his brother-in-law tried to revive it, unsuccessfully.  He has since pass away, so I can't kick him for butchering up the bike so bad.

This is my first motorcycle and I live right next door to my father-in-law.  Its been very nice being able to ask the PO about things that have happened to the bike and know I'm not getting a line of bull.  He is 77 years old now and has ridden the bike several times since I've resurrected it.  Comes back with a smile on his face.

thats 42 so far! Great story mjstone. I have never met any of the original owners of my bikes, it would be neat.
I have 2 more on the side of my house waiting their turn to be revived.

Actually brought back from dead, as in not running and in need of serious work before they would run:  4

1971 CB750
1976 CB550K
1976 CB360
1969 CB350

Not running but only needed a new battery, minor carb work and a tune-up to run:  2

1974 CB350F
1979 KZ1000

Not sure what you would consider "brought back from the dead".  For me it means the bike needed a top-to-bottom overhaul before not only running but also being roadworthy.

Everything else I've had has come to me in at least somewhat running condition.

1. 1972 CB750 I consider a rescue as the owner was leaving town in a hurry and was going to abandon it in a field.
2. My dad's 1966 CB77 305 Superhawk sat in the garage for about 20 years before I got it running again.

Hopefully all of them, but as it is I don't want to point to where they are. Got three, one is close.

Hard to not sell a part when a forum person waves cashish for extra parts. Maybe a  person dedicated  to title issues on this forum would be good....

A friend helped me get started with a seized, been leanin against the outside of the garage for 3 yrs 750 a couple years ago, runs great and hope to do a "Relay" leg on it. Brought back 2 Virago 500's but one didn't have a title so it's becoming a parts bike for the third xv500, so while it's kind of 3, it won't really be until I swap the xv500 motor. First Virago was down for 4 or 5 yrs, bought it from a guy who got it from a friend of a  friend of a friend, ran the day I looked at it, didn't run again until I pulled the carbs and rebuilt them. Second Virago sat in PO's garage for 14 yrs, wasn't seized, but the garage was close enough to the river that there's lot's of pitting in the chromes. Again with the pulling carbs and rebuilding.. plus a new solenoid and battery, and then a starter..but it's my daily for now, third xv500 I thought would be an easy fix, but it has a hole in the piston. Runs really nice tho..smooth, quiet, just not as much power as the one that runs on both cylinders. So, motor's coming out of #1 since it was a lost title bike and going into #3 and gets a title. And maybe one of them cafe haircuts. The 750A is waiting in the wings..but it was a runner when I got it, just hasn't been titled in a buncha yrs. Got a seized 750 motor project, currently stalled, fresh head and cylinders, but then I saw the 836 kit on ebay and have been waiting 6 months for it to re-appear..So I'm gonna say 3 with more to come..

I bet most of these bikes were in need of just a little repair since the PO was sure it would not take much to get it running agin.  It ran when I parked it I just can't ert it started and I lost interest  yada yada yada

1 CB750 K0 that should have been a parts bike, my current project, waiting for paint and pipes - mostly money.
1 CB750 K1 that started from a bare frame and bunch of old parts
1 CB750 K1 that I bought new that really was just a refresh as I had taken care to keep it nice.
The K1's are in my avatar.
