61mm - 62mm hi-comp pistons for '79 cb650?
« on: April 15, 2011, 10:34:13 PM »
I have this cb650 motor I want to stick in my cb500 but before doing so I'd like to make it better. This is the first time I've built a motor so please bear with me as I've  just recently started digging into all this knowledge and I'm still pretty unfamiliar with what most of you already know.

I was very inspired by Paulages "550/650 hybrid or cb650 big bore HOW TO" (thanks Paul). I think going real big as in 64mm and up w/ cb750 or cb900 liners in the cb650 barrels would be awesome but I don't think I can afford to invest in having the top case and barrels machined. I also read about Soos trying out some piston options that would work with a little machining of the pistons and the stock 650 liners. According to Soos the liners can be bored up to 62mm. I've gathered that '77/'78 cb750 high dome pistons are 61mm and would be ideal but I'm finding it a little difficult to find a set. Anyone know other options? I've read that kz650 pistons would work but the rings are an issue. I've kind of just been trying to find pistons and their dimensions online but its pretty difficult to do when you don't have them in front of you to measure and look at. Like cb175 pistons, I believe they are 62mm and look like they have a high dome to work with but I have no clue as to what the wrist pin diameter is. Any advice?

62 mm in a 650 liner is not a good idee ; the sleeves are to thin for this  61mm is oké

u can use  750 F2 pistons  slightly higher than  750s
with 61 you get about 650cc
and you got a new cilinder
