750F to 750K Tank Swap?
« on: April 13, 2011, 07:25:41 am »
Can anyone out there tell me if the gas tank from a 77-78 F Super Sport will fit on a 77-78 K?  Has anyone tried this?
The tank on my K7 is a huge bulbous thing, and I was looking for a way to get a slimmer more streamlined look without spending the $$$ for a custom cafe tank.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

while they will swap in with ease I"m pretty sure the seat/tank clearance will be off.

I might be looking to go the other way. Do you already have the F tank?

MrJack~

I too have a 77 750 K.  I agree, the stock tank is too wide.  I picked up a 78 750 A tank that fits front and rear mounts.  However the A tank is about 3 inches longer and will require a different seat.  I can add some pics tonight if you need.

Keep the shiny side up!

Yeah, I think you're right.  I'll deal with it when I get to that point.

Nope no F tank yet.  Still running the original fat ass K7 tank.

Pictures would be cool, thanks.  I'm gathering a few different seat pans, so I'll be able to customize something to fit.

Sorry 'bout the lousy pics - the bike is buried in the way back of my garage.  In the 2nd pic you can see the stock K rubber mount lines right up with the flange on the back of the tank.

I really got to get back to work on this thing...  Been too busy scrounging up parts for it and fixing other projects to pad the warchest with to get anything accomplished with it...

Cool! Thanks for taking the time to get these pics.  Looks like you had to do a little reaching and leaning.  ;)
I'll let you know when I get a hold of a decent tank and start the swap.
