My apologies in advance if this has been covered before I looked but didn't see any thing specific.
I'm wondering if I can get folks input on some issues that I'm having before I do anything drastic. I've got a 75 CB550K and after a long ride last fall my oil light went on and my tach stopped working. I decided to order the parts over the winter that I thought were the problem (and if not well, I could always use spares).
So, I get the bike out of winter hibernation and get to work. I took off the shifter side engine cover and noticed that there was a decent amount of oil all over the place. I cleaned it up and checked the oil level and it's ok. According to the shop and clymer manuals the oil light culprit could be the pressure switch, grounded/damaged wire or oil pump. I didn't think it was the switch since I replaced it last year but I got another one just to be safe.
I replaced the switch with the brand new one from honda started the bike up and the oil light went out. So, I thought my problem was solved. I went for a ride and the light is now back on. I removed the tappet covers and there is oil there so what gives? Should I remove the oil pan next and check the oil pump?
Now, for the tach. I replaced the cable with a new one from honda and the tach seemed to work again but is now making a high pitched noise when the rpms go above 3k. I did notice that there is a little bit of oil leaking out of the tach drive seal. Do I need to replace it and if so how do I remove the seal without damaging anything?
The clymer manual says that you place a wood screw in a hole and pop it out. Well, there isn't any hole besides the one for the bolt that holds the tach cable in place. Do I need to drain the oil from the bike and then pry out the old seal? Sorry for the newbie questions, this just has me stumped.
