Speedometer drive assy won't stay put!

After torquing down my front end on my 500K2, I've realized that my speedo drive moves with my wheel. Once it touches part of the fork it obviously stops moving. I just replaced my wheel bearings, and I'd say that I get about 1.5 turns out of the front wheel on a good hard push. Is something else other than the torque of the axle supposed to hold this in place? I don't remember disassembling anything else...

I seem to remember that the drive just sort of floats around, but once the cable is attached it finds its home position and stays put.

Okay. It just seems weird to me that it would be semi-free floating. I guess I'll see how different it is once I put the cable in, but that won't be until after I button up my engine and mount it. Thanks for making sure I'm not crazy!

Don't know about the 500, but on both the 550 and 750 the speedo drive is not free-floating. Once you screw the axle tight it stays put. I'm pretty sure the 500 should be the same.
