Looking for some general help in Phoenix, AZ
« on: April 18, 2011, 07:42:12 PM »
What's up guys?  New to the forum and new to the CB750.  I just purchased a 1974 and I'm stoked to have it.  Took it to get emissions tested but it failed.  Carbon Monoxide portion passed but the Hydrocarbons portion of the test failed.  I'm wondering if there is anybody in the Phoenix area that can help me out?  Maybe somebody that's looking for a little side work?

Maybe the laws are different in Az. but in NC there is no emission test on 35 year old or older motorcycles. If everything works on your bike headlamp, taillamp, horn, turn signals, brake light, etc. it will pass. Took mine to the local HD dealer and in passed with no trouble, and it was also the main attraction. Customers and employee's would walk right by the $25000 Roadking or $30000 Ultra Classic to check out my 35 year old 750 K6. Just amazing ;D ;D

Yeah lived there briefly in the Tempe are and remember I had to get my 72 Monte Carlo emissions tested. I thought it wouldnt need one. It did. I thought motorcycles were different but I was obviously wrong before. Sorry not much help, just sayin.

Wow!  I'm glad that hasn't come to my area yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time for everyone.

Unburnt hydrocarbons would suggest you're running too rich.  Was the engine at full operating temperature?  Is the air filter new or clean?  Has the engine had a recent tune-up?

Place a call to Medusa Cycles, in Mesa. He specializes in SOHC motors and can actually tune your carbs on an emmissions machine that he has nearby. Tell him Eddie sent you. I take my 78 k8 to him and he makes it pass everytime. 480-330-1266.

The HC max for motorcycles here in Arizona is 1800 ppm. If you're over that, you'd want to fix it regardless of emission tests to prevent washing down the cylinder walls and creating excess wear. And I'd bet your exhaust makes your eyes hurt and stinks up your clothes. Send me a PM. I'm in Scottsdale.
