750 Cylinder Base Gasket
« on: April 18, 2011, 03:59:00 PM »
I buggered up my base gasket that came in my Henry Abe 900 kit. What is the diameter of the hole in a standard 736cc 750 engine? Wondering if I need to special order a gasket for this kit or will the stock base gasket fit?

Thanks

Bob,

I appreciate that however your measurement answers that age old question. Mine is 73mm. I didn't have a stock one to compare but the one for my 1000 kit is larger than this so I kinda expected that. The Cometic gasket site lists only the stock part number so I had my hopes up I guess. I couldn't get through to a person there to ask.

Thanks much,
Jerry

So, anyone have a 73mm hole size base gasket?

Just a thought, Jerry - Might give the guys at Cycle-X a call.  They seemed to have a bunch of oversize piston kits, would bet that they could hook you up with one that would work.

I bot OEM Base Gasket from Motogrid for my 888cc Kit. Fits like a glove.

MC, Doug, GSX and Wrench,

Thanks a million! The Abe gasket has ~73.5mm holes. It's definitely a loose fit. I didn't have a clue what size holes the stock gasket has. Just measured my Abe cylinders and they are 70mm! Didn't MC say it fits like a glove?! Guess that also helps answer why Cometic lists their's with the reference to the stock part number.
A call to Honda is in order. Wonder why the big bore after markets are that much larger?? Guess they must make a one size fits half of everything kinda like with the head gaskets.

I bot a CycleX gasket kit and the base gasket in that was too tight for my 888 cyinder sleeves and it ripped. The material wasn't quite as robust as the OEM either. Now thats the gasket in the kit. Don't know if thats the same one they sell individually or not.

I had bot 2 OEMs from Motogrid, they appeared to come in officcial Honda packaging. I just measured the spare stocker at 70mm. It fit my sleeves with just enough to spare for the gasket to lay flat nicely all around with no little wrinkles, but NO MORE space than that.
