DOUBLE Iron Ass 2000+ Mile AMAZING Rider Club
« on: May 03, 2011, 08:17:45 pm »
It has come to my attention that we will have a select few amazing Relay riders that have gone to extraordinary measures to keep the Relay alive and make it happen. Some of these guys have ridden solo all or most of their journeys. Some of these guys will ride more than 1 leg and will repeat in another region when the opportunity becons. Please give it up for our Relay Heroes  ;D

The title says it all. If you've earned it please post up here  ;D

Thanks for posting those pics, especially Rocky Mountains, I really enjoyed reading your thoughtful and excellent log, its the next best thing to being there. Your solo riding in those deserted no-mans land in this GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS is epic! Sorry you hit some nasty weather towards the end, but it made for even more adventure!

Total = 2195.1 Miles
Michigan Leg

Day One - 7-23
Davison to Detroit for Eastern Canadian Hand off. Detroit to Kalamazoo.

7-24
Kalamazoo to Davison (headed home)

Day Two - 7-27
Davison to Kalamazoo to Interlochen

Day Three - 7-28
Interlochen to Sault Ste. Marie

Day Four - 7-29
Sault St. Marie to Marquette

Day Five - 7-30
Marquette to  Iron Mountain  ( hand off to Old Scrambler for the Northern Leg)
Iron Mountain to Cascade Wisconsin (Old Scramblers home)

Day Six - 7-31
Cascade to Milwaukee (Leave GZ and head south to round the bottom of Lake Michigan with BankerDanny  and SeanBarney41)
Milwaukee to Chicago (Leave DannyBanker and travel with SeanBarney41)

8-1
Chicago to Kalamazoo (Arrive at 5:30 in the morning)
Kalamazoo to Davison (After catching a couple of hours of sleep at Sean's house)

The only problem I had with my bike was dropping the bike on Devil's Elbow, a really tight curve on the winding road, M119, in a stretch called the Tunnel of Trees.  Only damage to the bike was a dent in my fuel tank on the left side in the middle of my Honda emblem.  My Vetter Windjammer fairing got scratched up and the fairing mount was tweaked a little bit (this caused the lower on the left to hit the tank and hence the dent.)  We stopped for a photo shoot at the Mackinac Bridge and I removed the fairing and readjusted the mount and everything was good to go.  In that same stretch of M119 was where Ratracer dropped his bike on a curve that we have now named Tim's Shoulder.

Godzilla rode on my bike from interlochen for about 75 miles.
I rode in Godzilla's escort from Detroit to Kalamazoo and then from Kalamazoo to Milwaukee.

OK, my part in this is finished, so I'll chime in with the combined mileages for the Nevada-Utah leg, and the Montana-Wyoming-Idaho-Oregon portion.  Total Godzilla miles are 1954 1754.  All miles turned in during the course of the relay are 3554.

Thanks to Sean, Fred, Matt, Jerry, Terry, Craig, Steve, Kris, and last but not least, Mickey for hitting all the marks and making this doable.  It was a pleasure to meet you guys and you all did some great riding.  If you are ever riding through Idaho, look me up and let's ride.

I should also mention a certain amazing '75 750F that behaves as if it will run forever.  It did all the work, after all.  It will be back to the mundane task of hauling my ass back and forth to work in a couple of days, but it still makes a helluva good touring machine.  I may have more to say about that later.

Edit to correct GZ miles cuz I can't add

Can't touch that! What else would we expect considering it's on a 1975 CB750F (oh yeah!) with 130,000+ miles. BUT, the bike couldn't do it without Greg on top! You are THA MAN! I bow to your accomplishments  ;) The king of the Relay.

I don't think it was me.  More than a few times that bike has gotten me someplace where I didn't remember how I got there.  Like a good horse.

Thanks you guys, but really I was just lucky to be able to have the time to do it.  And like I said, the bike did all the work, I just paid the bills. ;D
