cam chain replacement question

alright i finally got my motor back from the machine shop and now its time to assemble it. seeing as ive got the cylinders off i decided that i would start with replacing the cam chain. i was wondering if anyone might have a link to a guide of how to replace a cam chain. ive read a few topics on it and honestly have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to using rivits or soft links or whatever. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What bike?

Generally, the chains are "endless" and the crank must be removed to replace it.

Alternatively, there are masterlinks available that allow you to cut the old chain, thread the new one thru, and connect with the master link. The link is a "peen the pin" style and requires some technique to fasten it, or a special tool.

I only know CB750s so will stop till we hear what you are working on.

it is  71 cb750 and i decided to split the block. unfortunately when i did so i removed the rods (should have just taken the pistons off) and reinstalled them then put the motor back together and realized i forgot to torque the rods. so now i have to start all over again and remove the rods and retorque them. am i forgetting anything else before i have to tear apart the motor for the 3 time? also what do i torque the rods too? im having a hard time finding the specs. if i am missing anything please let me know before i mess something up on the bike.

download the manual.................if you have the bottom case off you can lift the crank and set on some wooden blocks to access the cam chain (to install endless unit) and leave the primary chains and clutch alone.  If you install an endless chain do a search for the masterlink.......you will find that its recommended to use a Kawasaki unit.....tip..........when reinstalling the cam tower be sure to check the link side-clearance on the head at the cam chain tunnel.

i was wondering y i have to lift the bottom off vs lifting the top off? also ive got some lube so im going to lube everything up while it is apart. also i got some blue locktight for the bolts that hole the engine together and i was wondering if i should use it on the rods when i lube and torque them?

Once inverted, the bottom of the motor becomes the "lid'
and all the gears, shafts, and other components sit in thier respective locations within the top half of the crankcase. If you remove the top half with the motor upright, the entire lower unit will fall out, gears, etc.....You will have then really crapped in your lunchbox ;D..not meaning to be a smart ass, but you know where I'm goin eh?

o ok i gotcha. the first time i split the block i only lifted the front up enough to get the cam chains switched out and couldnt really see. i would take the block it 2 but the arm thing that is holding the gears and right where the shifter is wont come off due to a stripped out screw so im going to have to figure something out.
