options for slimmer gas tank?
« on: April 22, 2011, 03:22:36 AM »
Aside from making my own out of fiberglass or spending $$$ for a cafe tank, what other gas tanks have people used on a CB750? I'm looking for a slimmer and/or taller tank and don't mind less capacity.

On my '75 750F I put a
tank off a CB360--a lot narrower--shows more of
the engine. I thought the tank was a little short though
so I added an extension--the jury is still out on that part.

CB500 is narrower and already has the knee creases built in (sorta)  I like the look on a 750.

CB 450 looks good a bit of modding
CL 350 blueturbo runs one but his frame rails are snipped
400-4 tanks look pretty good, minor mod or frame bashing
TL Honda trials tanks are the SLIMMEST, but only hold just over a gallon and probably need lots of work.
My guess is you will like the 400-4

Whatever you decide on, don't be worried about taking a hammer to the tank to make room for the components underneath.  I just did some "mods" to a 400/4 tank so the Z1000 USD forks I put on would not hit.  It was much easier than I ever thought, and the metal moves smoothly and slowly.

I have a 3 gallon, (with reserve) acorn tank on mine at the moment. I don't like it because I get very little distance out of it compared to everyone else with larger tanks .. about 80 miles give or take. I will sell you my tank in about two weeks when I swap out for the tank I just got from Charlie. I need to have it gel'd once I get it back from the media blaster later this week before I can do anything.

Spades, that is a Mustang tank...

I hope you mean hits reserve at 70 or 80 miles.. if not, it needs work...

Oh it needs work but yes, it hits reserve at about 80 miles. The tank was on the bike when I bought it therefore I didn't know the exact name of it. Just that I don't like the size.
