Which oil lines go where
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:10:03 PM »
Ok so I'm slowly getting my project back together and I have a hex oil tank as you can see. The line closest to the filler hole goes right into the tank, the one next to it has a higher tube inside the tank and the skinny one on the end looks like it curves upward from what I can see inside with a flashlight. Which lines go where? And what do I do with the skinny tube? I took the bike apart 3 years ago after the oil pump failed on the old engine. As you can also see I'm using an oil line adapter. Aside from stainless steel lines or cool copper lines what size rubber lines can be used? Thanks for the input fellas

Anybody?
I'm guessing the first port is oil in which means the left sided port on the motor (closer to swingarm)
The 2nd port is oil return which means hooked to other port on the right of the motor
And the skinny one is the breather. Does this get connected to anything?

Thanks

I think you have it right. Heres the lubrication diagram.

Oil pump supply (delivery pump): rear side fitting on motor to bottom of tank.
Oil pump return (scavenge pump): front side fitting on motor to top of tank.
Small vent line: top of tank to rear of motor.

You might consider running an oil pressure gauge, at least until this is sorted.

I wouldn't be downsizing the oil lines too much, and make sure you choose oil resistant hose.
