530 chain
« on: April 14, 2006, 01:23:18 AM »
O.K., my eyes are burning from staing at this screen looking for my info ;D
Rita is a "71 CB750 K1
My sprockets are:
Front: 17 tooth
Rear: 45 tooth
I believe the swing arm is stock.
I know the chain was a 530(now gone)
Now all I need is the length
Any help?

Thanks,
Jeff

First, make sure the sprockets are in good shape or replace them too.  Bad sprockets will kill a new chain.  Next, I believe stock was 48T and 18T, so you seem to have a custom setup.  Buy long and adjust the length to fit your specific setup --> http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=4940.msg38664#msg38664

You've got a different tooth count than stock, which may cause you to run outside of the originally intended powerband.  If you're thinking of changing sprockets, here's a handy calculator --> http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=8542.msg79015#msg79015

Also, there is a clearance issue with o-ring chain.  You may want to do some more searching on the different types of chain and their associated issues (cost, wear, life, fit, etc.)

I'm also in the market for a new chain, here's what I found in my parts book.

The 17T / 45T = 98 links, size 530 (CB750-KO)

The 18T / 48T = 100 links, size 530 (CB750-K1 thru K4)

Search the board regarding this clearance issue with the o-ring chain. If my memory is correct, this applies to the 500/550 engines and not the 750. This has been discussed extensively.

Thanks for the replies! ;D
As for the sprockets, I waiting on two new ones that match the current sizes on my chop.
As for the chain, the suggestion of going long is what I'm doing and then I'll just cut to length. Seems the easiest route so there I go. I am considering an X-ring though, I hear good things about them.
As for the clearance issue, I talked to a Honda tech and he said the 750's handle an O-rind with enough room, the clearance probs crop up with the 5XX cc engines, so I'm cool there as well.
Have a great day all!!!!! :) ;) :D ;D
