Fitting a CB500/4 fuel tank to a late CB550/4
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:35:45 AM »
Has anyone done this?

I'm talking about the CB500/4 fuel tank with the 2 lined design around it such as the one on this site:

http://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/bikes/classic_bikes/Honda_cb500-4.htm

Does a CB500/4 fuel tank fit right onto a CB550/4?

Appreciate any help. Thanks

The 500 tank will fit 550K. It will also fit 550F, but there will be a gap between the tank and seat.

In addition to what Geminimotors said, some Cb550's had a single fuel inlet on the carbs (PD).  These also had the longer tank, like the F model and will leave a gap between seat tank after a direct swap.

When asking questions about swap candidates, you'll get a more accurate answers if you state model and year specifics.

I'm using a 500/4 tank on my 75 550k. Swapped right over. The petcock is shaped a little different but I didn't have any clearance or fitment issues.

Just my .02.
