My CB500-4 sohc is for sale

I wish to sell my CB500-4 SOHC. Can anyone help me.
It is in good condition with about 48,000km (original) I am the 4th owner.
I am not sure of it's value and am open to suggestions.

I've no clue as to the condition of your bike, or the typical pricing in your area.

 I'd suggest that you search ebay completed listings, craigslist, etc.  You should be able to get a good idea of the going rate within just a few minutes.

Trev, I bought a 71 500/4 a couple of years ago with about 40k kms for $4500 - from Perth via trading post. Great bike.
ebay and trading post are a good place to start - you can put a classified ad on ebay with a fixed price...no need to auction it if you're not in a hurry.

I'm currently close to buying a '71, around the same k's, 2 owners (so I am told), wrong paint, 4 into 1, wrong seat, wrong master cylinder, but it's all there with a few spare bits, and am assured engine is very good (currently registered and used) for $1500.
It's going to make a great base for a cafe.

Hey, i wasn't trying to be smart, i have almost 3 750's and together with spares they didn't cost that much, one is a full RC race engine....
I suppose a bike is worth what you want to pay for it but its too rich for me....Just saying....

Value is hard to quantify, my CB650 is I guess worth about the $3000 I have spent resurecting it, same bike on Trade-me this week and the bids have reached $5000 so what do I know? ;D

No probs RR - I guess it's best not to get Trev's hopes up but I was happy with the price I paid.
I reckon it depends on the market you buy from. My sources for bikes were limited to online (ebay, tradingpost, bikesales etc.) and a couple of magazines. I also found a lot more 750's at the time for sale at cheaper prices but I was on a restricted license so...no 750 for me. There are less 500's around than 750's.
I'm sure that if I knew a bloke who knew another bloke with a bike in his shed I would have done better but alas...
Take a look on ebay Oz today and find a sub $5k 750 running and in almost orginal nick...now search for a CB500 or CB550....not much to choose from.

I'd be interested to hear the story of your CR race engine CB750 for less than $4500...are there any tips you want to share with us?

it is {or was} a Russ Collins equipped drag engine in perfect condition, 14.5 to 1 compression, {ran on methanol} ported head, Barnett clutch, RC crank and rods, venolia pistons, wide rims, CR31's and lots more. It was a 10 second bike that was built by an engineer and was absolutely spotless with tons of spares, $1500 bucks, i also bought an F1 750 for a hundred bucks with a spare frame and wheels. I came across the drag bike when i went to an engineering shop to get a swingarm modified for my K2. Sometimes luck plays a big part and i don't have much usually....right time at the right place... ;)

Actually, that engine is becoming a 1000cc monster and the parts i am not using are going into another engine. I have an alloy billet block {1000cc} with Nikasil bores that is going into the original engine and the pistons {venolia} , rods  and cam are going into the second engine. Its like a disease, i started out with one bike and now have almost 3 {need another engine} and can only see it getting worse..... ;D ;) Oh, yes it will be on the street, soon hopefully.... ;D

Wow - better upgrade the brakes methinks!
So you paid two parts of FA for the bikes but the rest of the upgrades are gonna cost a bit??
 Make sure you post some pics when you're done, I'm sure everyone will be keen to see the (and hear) the results!!

I have 43mm GSXR right side up forks and brakes up front and a modded GSXR1100J swingarm with the rear disc, she should stop well....and this one is a keeper so i don't really care what it costs. They way i am doing it, i can transfer all the parts i don't use into the other engine which i will sell in my second bike, that should recoup some costs.....Still have a complete brand new 970 kit as well..... ;D   I think i'm addicted.... :P

Thanks for the link Hummbug and if it was a SOHC4 I'd be salivating but the rollerdoor DOHC ones just don't do it for me. :D

go to www. yamaharetrospares.com for prices on bikes in Australia. This shop is in Adelaide and he sells a lot of restored bikes. The 70's bikes are very popular in Adelaide, they are a bit pricy but he seems to have the sales.
