Biker Bell
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:38:33 PM »
Has anyone on here heard of a good luck biker bell?

Was just wondering if any one has one on their bike.

My 550 has the bell. Never been pulled over, never been stranded since it was given to me. The story as I understand it, is that the bell must be given to you and your bike by someone else. The gremlins, fairies, and evil spirits get trapped inside the bell, and the ringing drives them to distraction from fooling around with you and your bike.

Don't know if I believe all that superstition stuff but I give my friends one when they get a bike sometimes. It's something that has been handed down to me by my Dad, he's always had one. It's more popular with the HD riders I think.

I have one, why my wife gave it to me. First one fell off when I had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. I guess it only works on the hard parts.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have a Gremlin bell myself and wouldn't dream of riding without one. My best friend(at the time) gave it to me the day after I got Rita and it helped me from danger a couple of times. It started ringing constantly one time and when I pulled over I found the rear spokes were breaking. I pulled off the freeway as soon as it started ringing. If I hadn't and kept riding I am confident enough spokes would have given way to where my rear wheel would have come apart and I would have had a bad wreck. The best I can figure is when the spokes started breaking it made the bike shimmy a certain way that swung the bell just the right way to make it ring until I pulled to a stop. By the time I had come to a complete stop half the spokes were broken.

What are these biker bells?

I am typing this post with my right hand in bandages: hit a car with the CB last week, fell on the concrete and scraped my hand to the third degree. Bike is wrecked, but will be fine, as will I.

But this sounds like something that I'd like to try. Kind of believe in these little things.

They literally little bells that you can hang on your bike; pretty small.  But apparently they have to be given to you by someone.  I think I will she about my wife buying me one.

In '64 I was traveling around Europe on a Triumph Tiger 500.  I bought a St. Christopher medal at the catacombs in Rome to hang on my bike for luck.  The day I lost it I got hit by a pickup truck, just a glancing blow and the bike did not even go down.  Never the less, I was convinced of the effectiveness of this amulet.  Bells may work as well.

Definitely have a bell. One was given to me by the PO of my first bike, 77 550. Kept the bell when I sold the bike. Im rebuilding a 72 750 and bought the tach cable support mount just to hang the bell. Ever seen the Looney Tunes' gremlin, they're crafty little buggers

Now I'm not generally the superstitious type, but I don't care if somebody else is as long as their superstition doesn't affect my life.  Sort of like how I feel about religion.  I'm curious, though.  Do you place enough importance (or feel it already exists) on the power of this particular superstition that you wouldn't ride your bike if you somehow misplaced this coin?
