Need a baffle for a Kerker 4 into 1, 1972 CB750
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:02:10 AM »
Ok so Im finishing up my first rebuild on a 1972 Cb750 and got a random question.

I took the exhaust off the other day to clean it up/remove some rust and it doesnt have a baffle. It has a baffle cap. Ive read that the baffle creates back pressure and prevents wear and tear on the engine as well as cut down on the noise.  Its rediculously loud, which doesnt really bother me, but I dont wanna piss of the neighbors. Do I really need a baffle to prevent wear and tear on the engine, or is the cap just fine?

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions other than buying a new $100 kerker baffle,
Genuine Kerker Baffle
Large Megaphone,
Small 1.5" Competition (I.D)

Thanks

Probably. Does the inner tube actually attach to the baffle cap?

before you order.... kerker had to different size exhaust systems. the early system was 2" at the collector, the later system 2.5". it does make a difference in whether the baffle fits right or not!

on that note i got the mac replacement (made specifically for a kerker) and at $50 im a happy camper, shut it up a lot, but still screams when you open her up. real nice tone....

crc2 carrys it, but their customer service really pissed me off, so i just ordered it directly from mac... same price.

i made one for a transac megaphone, the end cap is a waterpump pulley with the belt groove cut off and a short sleeve that fits snug over the perforated pipe,a bed spring holds it in place,i have roof insulation wrapped around it.

i plugged the pulley drive bolt holes with stainless button head bolts for added bling.

So I just measured the diameter of the collector, where the header connects to the megaphone, and its 2.5". Im thinking of going with the MAC replacement. Got to save a few bucks. Anyone else had good luck with these?

crc2 shows em wrapped in fiberglass, MAC doesnt sell them that way... not sure if crc2 wraps them, cause i pissed em off and they stopped answering my questions. but wrapping it is something i wish i did before i got the baffle stuck in my wrong size pipe! its made well, seems to be powdercoated...

it should sit in the pipe like the original baffle (so the cone is flush) but i got mine wedged in there pretty good  :-\
