A little help with electrical troubleshooting please
« on: April 26, 2011, 05:05:30 PM »
I think I have my problem figured out but would like some others inputs.
I just recently put my 78' CB750 back together and am having issues getting it to run. At first it seemed like a fuel issue but the float bowls are full and the cylinder is getting gas. So now I think I tracked it down to the electrical system.
List of problems
- Engine wont fire when turned over
- If engine starts only runs for 30 secs. or so and dies when applying throttle
- Very light spark when tested
- Lead on cylinder 4 seperated from wire and looked like it have poor contact with the terminal in the boot.

I am just not sure if whether it is just my spark plug wires and boots, or if it involves my coil as well.
Any help or comments would be great and appreciated
Jesse

First thing to do would be to cut 1/4 inch off all your plug wires and clean out each plug cap of old rubber down inside by the threaded screw and re-screw each wire into each cap firmly..... try that !
Also clean the point faces really well to a nice shine  :).... P.S. coils very rarely fail.
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Thank you, that worked. Now I just have to figure out why my return spring on the shifter isn't working properly.
