Firefox & Chrome help!!!
« on: April 26, 2011, 03:42:49 PM »
My  firefox 4.0 running on a windows vista machine requires constant computer restarts or a process stop in Task Manager.   >:( >:( >:(

I tried to load Chrome, it acts like it has loaded, shows up on my program list, but will not start, no indication in Task Manager that an application or Process has started...  ??? ??? ???

I run windows security essentials and the vista firewall.   Have tried shutting off the fire wall and security essentials an a restart.

Windows explorer 8 runs (of course)

You might want to install Adaware Free and scan your system.

run your normal virus scan (I like Avast, but whatever), then run adaware listed above.   Then get the free version of malwarebytes.org.  run it last and do a full scan.

Next step is to uninstall Firefox reboot the computer and go to oldapps.com and get Firefox 3.6.13

Firefox 4 was released before they ironed out all of the bugs and there are several issues.

Get rid of Vista.  I've been running 4.0 on 2 Windows 7 machines without any issues for months.

+1

For a long time, the discount computer retailers were advertising a downgrade from Vista to XP as a selling point for their machines.

Vista is a write-off.  Upgrade to 7 and be done with it.

I ran the Ad-Aware and MSE, Ad-Aware found a running problem, cleaned it but no change.

Sounds like I have a general consensus about Vista.  I have been having a problem with SolidWorks since a Vista update 3 months ago and I wanted to update this machine now I have a real excuse update.

Thanks for the help.
