I bought this bike last summer, and it’s been sitting in the corner of my garage since.....waiting patiently for the attention that it deserves. I’ve told this story here before, but for those of you that haven’t read it, here it is again...
This is actually my wife’s bike. I had ZERO interest in motorcycles up until a year ago. I’ve been into cars since I was a kid, and was always in the garage wrenching with my Dad...After my wife and I bought a house a couple years ago I was on the lookout for another Mopar project that I could start on. My Dad and I had already put a lot of work into an older Mopar that doesn’t really need much anymore, so I wanted something else to tinker with. Reality was starting to set in that a) I’m not a millionaire, so I can’t afford to restore a Mopar (even though prices on the actual cars are going down a bit, parts are stupid expensive...), and b) my tiny single car garage just was NOT big enough to even park most cars in, let alone tear one down and restore it.
Fast forward to last summer. My wife has always wanted a bike, but has never really been into newer bikes...she wanted something “old”...We were out at a cruise-in last year and there was a beautiful Moto Guzzi 850t there, which made me fall in love with bikes just a little bit.
Eventually I caved, my wife got her way, and now I own three SOHC Hondas (all listed in my sig below). The deal was that if she wanted an older bike, she had to learn how to do basic maintenance on it herself...As you can see from the pics below, the bike hasn’t been ridden in a long time, and is missing a few parts...So, this will be a husband and wife project bike of sorts...
I had the bike running when I got it last year, and it ran, and idled great...which is a definite bonus. Actually, it ran better than my daily rider CB550...
Price? $250 with a title...I’m going to try to keep a running tab of costs so I can tally it all up at the end...I’ll try to update that in this post every now and then as well.
This wont’ be a quick project by any means, as we’ll only be working on it when we have time to be in the garage together (which is why it’s been sitting for nearly a year), so don’t expect daily updates. I’ve wanted to dig into it for awhile, but have held back. I’ll be sure to update when I can!
Oh, and for all you knowledgeable folk out there, expect a lot of questions along the way.
