I've just been observing for a while now trying to follow the ever moving route map for Mid-Atlantic.  I still can't really figure out exactly what is happening in this region.

I'm based in Philly and I'll be trying to join the ride Lancaster through Philly and into Jersey, maybe even start near B-more and end up in NYC if that all gets worked out.  I'm flexible with routing.

I have no problems with riding highway or city, but we can certainly avoid the 695, 83, and 95 proposals around the Baltimore (I lived there for a few years and know some nice alternatives to highway) and Philly areas since we aren't in a race.

I think posting my own map will only confuse things further at this point, but if we need suggestions I can chime in.

No please do post a map since you know the area and can take the route around roads that are slow, dangerous  like 95 etc. Pm the other riders around you and confer with them.

Awesome gents!! I'll update the schedule to show that TEN will have GZ on the 12th.  What you do between the 22nd and the 12th is up to you!  Please let me know once you get some firm overnights with dates and I'll get 'em put on the main schedule.  But having the TEN handoff is definitely appreciated by those of us downstream!!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Re: TEAM MID ATLANTIC ROUTING THREAD- Handoff Date and Location Change
« Reply #53 on: May 04, 2011, 05:40:07 pm »
AndyCB750 the Coordinator for Team New England have been corresponding and we have decided to move the location and the date of the handoff from Woodstock to Rhinebeck NY.  Woodstock and Rhineback are about 30 minutes apart so Woodstock could be done also if that is the team's wish.

On June 11 there will be the Rhinebeck Vintage Bike show. Last year Andy and some of the Boston crew met up there and had a great time. It is a good venue for a Vintage Bike event like ours. People would appreciate what we are doing better than some Harley centric area. The VJMC has a large display there. In Woodstock we would probably be handing off to Andy, in Rhinebeck we will have a larger group. It is a great Town with lot's restaurants and Pubs.

Of course you will notice that we have moved the date of the handoff back. The fact of the matter is this is not an iron butt event, it is a fun event.

Our region is comprised of some of the most densely populated areas in the Country and to work routes that are both fun and reasonably safe in this region is a challenge. We do not have the wide open major roads that are comfortable to ride on. We have congested major Interstates. So we have to always take longer secondary roads that wind around through lovely scenery, but add time and miles to the trip. In some cases I have plotted routes that were in excess of 1000 miles, so we are in no way a short leg of this Rally.

We have riders located in these major cities that would like to take some interesting and creative pictures of GZ in places like Washington DC, Philadelphia, and NYC.  This date change gives us flexibility to do things like a Billy Joel stop.

Please continue to communicate with riders in your local area, plot out routes and meet ups and let's have some fun and be as safe as we can.

I like the extra days. How's this for flexible? If GZ doesn't go to Lancaster/York between Hancock and Lewes, I can take it from Lewes to Lancaster by way of NJ before it goes into Philly.

As mentioned earlier, there are a few options of activities/sights in Philly. Who/what he gets to hang with will just depend on a combination of the weather and which day of the week GZ's here...

Jon, I was reading the thread for the Team handing off to us. It would seem they also have some activities they would like to take GZ to. I get the impression that he will move a bit slower as he heads east. We may have to take the handoff on the original date, but Andy and the NE riders have shifted dates. Could the Pa riders punch in their stops, meet up points and preferred route. We are under no obligation to do this in one weekend.

It looks like with Tish on board you will have company. You may reach out and see if you can work something out.

OK, I have taken Mootans route and added Lewes, Philly, NYC and the handoff point at Rhinebeck. At Rhinebeck Andy expects 5 riders to come down with him, so we will have a bigger group representing the Rally.

Please look at the route and refine it in the area you wish to ride in. It looks a bit convoluted, so if you work with each other you can smooth it out.

Team Central will be taking the handoff in four days and begin moving toward us. We need to make final handoff arrangements, I will monitor their progress and report, we need to have a rock solid handoff. Start working with the riders in your region. This is not a drill, he is coming.

Larry, as you can see from the map, we are coming right at ya. ;D  Once we take the hand off from Team Central we have some time to wander a bit before we meet team New England.

I'm getting excited for this handoff.

As of now, I have 2 people who have contacted me directly from the NYC area.  I know early on we had a few more who had posted in the old thread.  Let's start getting organized with this NYC part - so that we know where we need to meet up, who has ideas for good photo ops etc.

If you want to email me directly at nortstudio@gmail.com we can start getting geared up.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,  I'm excited too. I'll meet you at Billy Joel's place, just let me know when. Then I will meet everyone at Rhinebeck on June 11th, will be trailering my bike up there for the show. Wish I could ride with you upstate, but like I said, I don't have the seat time for the trip. Keep up the great work.

I think we are still trying to work that out.  We can't make definitive plans until we know who/when we will be getting the hand off to the NYC area.

looking good. Photolar, that's a nice ride from lancaster to lewes.

if you're good for A to E, i'm still good for E to F, and will investigate some events/overnights in philly, and see who in philly is up for F to G.

We are finally getting it together and thank you guys for teaming together. Once we take the handoff form Team Central the time between that handoff and the New England handoff is ours. Central tells me they expect to be on time for handoff, but with all the flooding in some States we don;t know.

I have been trying to PM people from the first thread to see if they are in or out. I have not gotten through all of them yet. We will get this done. And in style.  ;D

Nice work Bobby. I think between Philly550 and I, we should be able to figure getting it from the southern half of our leg to the northern side.
