Finally broke down and dished out mucho dinero for an Icon retro daytona (black).  It's got the thick leather and a look that I couldn't say no to.  When you are just wearing the jacket, it's not comfortable, but as soon as you get on the bike, it feels like an extra layer of skin, almost armor.  But, helmet is a Shoei, gloves are Icons.  Haven't purchased the boots yet.

How exactly do you teach abstinence though?
It's like beating a dead cow, it's fun, but it doens't really get you anywhere.

Oh, I forgot!

I'm actually standing behind the tree to the left, but it's hard to see without glasses ;)

Putnaja1, I've been doing the same thing here (see my helmet post).

For jackets, I really want to go with a perforated Fox Creek Leather.  It's hot and humid here in D.C.
Check out the reviews at http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/fox-creek/.

Of course, I'd expect that the Ikon is a bit more colorful.

For pants, I haven't decided yet.  Chaps are definately out since I want my butt to still be intact after a slide.  There're some reviews at webbikeworld that you might find helpful.

Seriously, I use a Vega full-face helmet, Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh jacket (w/removable waterproof liner), Joe Rocket gloves, jeans (saving up for Draggin Jeans), and work boots. I really like the jacket. It's all black but still keeps you cool. Has armor in the back, elbows, etc. and it's very comfortable and light weight.

It's the middle of winter down here. This is what I was wearing yesterday..

2 pairs of socks
boots
Jockeys
thermal leggings
waterproof armoured overpants
thermal singlet
cotton singlet
woolen jersey
Fox sleeve armour
back protector
jacket
scarf
gloves
helmet

It was clear but cold, expecting about 2 or 3 inches of snow this afternoon....

I know how you feel TC, we're in the middle of a deep dark winter here in Oz, and living in one of the coldest parts (Victoria) I had to rug up yesterday when I took the ol' K1 for a blat, I wore the following:

a. Jeans,
b. Windcheater, and
c. Gloves.

Man, if it gets any colder here, I'll have to wear a jacket! Brrrr!  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey I remember "Wam" mate, George Michael did ok for himself, but poor old Andrew Wridgely apparently wasn't gay enough? Is there any link between thermal leg warmers and Wam fans? Ha ha, cheers, Terry. ;D

Hey junkie, that "weird scrotum-looking part" as you so elegantly put it is Banks Peninsula. There are roads all over it. They have some of the best twisties in the region. Most weekends it resembles a sort of mini Isle of Mann TT with riders of all types going ape-#$%* out there. Everyone knows where the cops sit with their radars so it is a lot of fun. Quite a few cafes and pubs also. There are two communities on the peninsula. I love to go over in the summer to the harbour on the east side and get a fresh fish burger on the wharf. The fish is caught same day and filleted on the boat then binned up onto the wharf where the BBQ is. Unbelievably good.

It's a great area for tourists. Swim with the dolphins, seals etc, and not recommended, swim with the sharks.   :o

as you so elegantly put it   ;D ;D - yeah - that's me - Mr. Elegant...

I zoomed in and saw all the roads - NZ is one of those places I'd like to visit one day - I was intrigued by the Banks Penn as a geological formation, I could see that it is extrememly rugged and such an singularity, kind of off on its own but full of potential, you know, kinda like a scrotum...

Hi junkie, if you look at the harbour that runs north to south through the scrotum you will be able to make out that the peninsula is in fact just one great big extinct volcano (well, I bloody well hope it's extinct). You will be able to see the old crater edge which is kind of circular. The large lake in the middle of the North Island is also an extinct volcano. The city of Auckland is built over another massive f*cker so lets hope it doesn't blow like Mt St Helens.

Have a look at www.kea-motorcycles.com if you like.

Me and 12 other guys are doing a 4 day tour of the South Island in September. The cost of a BMW RT1200 is US $63 a day, late winter rate. Staying in backpacker accommodation which is about $20 a night. Dead cheap.

My old engineer boots are dying.  The last time I had them resoled the cobbler said it was the last time.  So, after considering some options I went with a pair of brown cowboy boots.  These have oil and acid resistant rubber soles and are made of thick leather, you know, actually made to do work in as compared to the fancy Travolta Urabn Cowboy style that are worn with nut-huuger jeans.  Anyway, I threw them on for a short ride to run some errands.  My 650 responded by spitting gas onto both boots during startup. Guess they're motorcycle boots now.

Got room for a quiet, non drinking Aussie on that ride mate? Sounds great, and don't worry, I'll leave all the sheep alone if you find me a nice young Maori girl to keep my back warm on the ride? ;D

Hi Tell, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned..would be nice to meet you. If you want, email Kea and book a bike, I will be able to meet you at the airport and put you up at my place etc prior to setting out...The reference is the "Airways" booking and the key name is Jeff Louwman (my mate at work who is the organiser and who is well known to Kea).  Have a think about it.

No, I can't guarantee a Whahine or a sheep......But you will notice, if you come over, that possums are killed on the highways here in twos. They come down from the bush to 'ged id on' on the asphalt where it is nice and warm. What a way to go, on the gravy stroke (how coarse of me) Ha ha....

My email is toycollector10@gmail.com if you want any details of the run...Cheers
