Other starter solenoid options? Automotive perhaps?
« on: April 29, 2011, 10:25:16 AM »
Moving along on my chopper project (don't worry il be updating my build thread soon) and was curious aside from obviously replacing a starter solenoid with the same one (my original is gone from being removed during tear down 2 years ago) is there a automotive solenoid that could work???? I've tried searching but to no luck. I'm not opposed to buying one off eBay or wherever for that matter but in the Chicago area there are many auto parts stores and some carry basic bike stuff now (plugs, oil, filters, etc). Thanks for the help in advance -Sky

I had an old jeep with a remote starter solenoid. It would mount easily enough and could handle the environmental conditions with aplomb. You can find them at most auto shops.

I bought one for about $9 on E-bay.  It had the matching wiring too.

lawn mower/tractor, golf cart - any small engine shop that services these things will have solenoids. The size is right - car ones are rather large.
also snowmobile, scooter etc.

Awesome thanks for the help fellas. I've found a few on eBay that are priced right but I  figured that if I could snag something similar and have it quicker that's always nice too. Thanks guys
