You gotta turn in plates in Virginia to avoid late fees or something?

If I keep the plate, she would have to stay insured. Easier to register her again once she is ready.

She needs transmisson overhaul for sure, 2nd is jerky. I was not using second for few years now

. I want to see how is the head and cylinders too, most likely total check and if needed overhaul of the engine.

After that, not sure. Going back to original would be too expensive and I dont think I am anal enough to "edwardmorris" her

Forgot all about this, carburetor stay was likely the first thing I made for Dorothy. I broke the original getting carbs off, made new one from 6061.

Needed one a couple years ago but I was fortunate to find an Amish welder who repaired my broken in two one for the tidy sum of $5. That was all he asked for, I gave him 10...Larry

Prokop, how many miles did you end up putting on that thing? Awsome to see a bike that used up...even more awsome that you are gonna rebuild it!

The afternarket odometer was 8000 when I got it. Put 25000 miles on her. Parts are pretty shabby - except chain, tires, coils - stuff that made her run. She must be at least 50 000 or more.

Plans? Not sure, the frame has to be stripped and checked for weak spots. I know i am not restoring her to original, the exhaust is the most prohibitive reason.

Got the engine on the bench, pulled the cover to see the goodies.

Also checked the compression:

1: 110,110,110
2: 105,100,100
3:107,110,109
4:108,109,110

The Autozone gauge had rubber hose on it.

4 years ago it was 120,120,130,120 with different compression gauge.

But still, good numbers.

There is nothing visibly wrong with the valve train, but the cover had me puzzled. Looks like the aftermarket tappet hole caps need to be removed to get the cover off.

Hole caps also scraped some of the beautiful blue frame paint, as you can see. I am devastated

That is sad news. No choice but to repaint.

She is all squirreled away, parts wrapped in greasy rags or stretchtite. Only the engine for now, will work on it through the winter, but I think I need a rottiserie stand first.
