Broken bolt mount! Help?
« on: April 28, 2011, 09:08:47 AM »
When I got the bike it was missing the rear case (sprocket) cover, and a broken off bolt in the bottom mount. It's been soaking for a couple of weeks, it wouldn't budge. Heated it today, it came out alright, and busted the mount. Question. get it welded? or would JB Weld work somehow, I hear fantastic results with it, but I'm not sure about it in this area. Thoughts?
You can see the crack, I know the bottom half came loose, I'm almost wondering if the top half isn't loose too. Thanks, John

That sucks. If it were mine I would find a good heli arc weld and have them weld it up. Leave the motor together. A good welder will bevel and clean everything. Once done if needed re-drill the hole.

If its a 750 and  you do not have to be 100% KOrrect, try this;
 I have taken the sprocket cover (spare) screw holding, they are way quicker to take on and off..
 Then fix the bad hole nicer, if the engine is out, later on.. and cut the part with the lower screw off. With the cover being a bit smaller and only 1

Yes, the engine is out. I poked around and 2 pieces broke off, so I'm trying JB Weld. It looks promising. I'll let you know. Thanks guys

I have the same break on my K1 and I just use the other bolt to hold the cover on . No problems .

Oh, good to know, I was afraid 1 bolt only would be game over.
