Dyna S Magnet Position *Pics Included*
« on: April 29, 2011, 12:43:09 PM »
Hey guys,
So Im trying to install a new Dyna S on a 75 750k but I'm stuck on how to install the black metal piece that replaces the points cam. The instructions state that the magnet is suppose to be to the left of 1/4 marks. But there is a small number that says 1 on the black metal piece so is that suppose to be aligned with 1/4? And if so, the magnet is to the right? I have pictures below on the possibilities for installment. Let me know which one is correct. Thanks!

PS: The "Magnet" in the pics shows the position of the magnet.

Well, it's been a while since I installed mine so I don't remember, but why are you second-guessing the instructions?

...is there only one magnet ? I thin there are two of them.
Here is a old picture from my K2 engine as I remember back there was only one position where it will fit perfect, but i am not sure.

Good luck Georg

There's a small, permanent magnet in the black rotor that replaces the stock points cam, which triggers the pick-ups for the 1/4 and 2/3 coils as it passes them.  This is the magnet the Dyna instructions, and I believe GreenHornet74, are referring to.

Unless you installed the Dyna wrong the bottom pic must be the correct way as the top pic clearly shows the magnet housing sitting proud above where the 22mm nut would lock onto the advancer unit. It must sit flat with the advancer unit in order for the nut and locking bolt to be fitted.

You have to spread apart the advance mechanism and then slip the magnet in between the slots of the magnet
that's it. You only have one pick up on the magnet and that tigers 1/4 then 2/3 as the motor is turning threw
there is a locator pin on the back if the advance to locate on the crank.
If I am understanding this

just installed a dyna on a 550 an the number on the rotor doesnt mean anything learned that after talking with dyna tech on the phone, Id suggest wiring it up the way you havwe it then put a test light on if it lights up when your on the 1/4coil  then your right is its lighting up 2/3 then rotate it

Thanks guys for the replies. The actual number on the piece was throwing me way off. I saw an install on another CB and the number aligned with the 1/4 marks, making the magnet sit on the wrong side. But then he said the wires were misprinted so when 1/4 was suppose to be firing the 2/3 were firing. I think maybe the magnet was installed wrong so it triggered the wrong cylinders making him switch the wires to work. I may be totally wrong but its the only thing that makes sense.

The pictures show the black metal piece installed, I made sure the washer wasn't obstructing the opening and closing of the advance mechanism. It sits just fine
