Replacement shocks for 79 CB650
« on: April 16, 2006, 11:13:14 AM »
I have just purchased my first bike, a 79 CB650.  The rear shocks look to be original and pretty mushy.  I was wondering what lower priced shocks would fit the bike.  I am a bit on the smaller side, 5'5, and would like to lower the bike a tad to help with my confidence.  The shocks right now are 13" center to center with no weight on the bike.  I have lowered the front ~0.75--1" by raising the fork tubes.  I was thinking using something like a 12 inch shock would keep the geometry pretty close to stock, while lowering the seat a tad.

I have found these posted, but am not sure if they would fit.....

I also need to get new tires, and was planning on looking for a lower profile set in the stock width..hoping this might lower it a tad more.

I may be totally off in my thinking, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

I havent bought new shocks as I always find a good pair of originals. Well as good as they where.  Let me know what you find as I should get a set also.  There was a set a couple weeks ago posted for a 750 that looked like they would work.  Also to lower your seat a little you could us a 16'' wheel. the 79 should have a 17.
