Sam, my wheels are aluminum. The front wheel, with tire, bearing hubs, bearing spacer, and bolts weighed about 2 pounds more than a stock K7 wheel with the same hardware. The bare Morris wheel, with hubs, spacer, and bolts was around 13.5 pounds. The bare rear wheel, with hubs, spacer, bolts, alloy sprocket, and disc was about 20 pounds.

The battery tray on the left is my old one, that I made to fit a 3 Ahr lead battery. With the stock reg and rectifier, it weighs 880 grams. The tray on the right is the new one, made to fit the LiFe battery, and weighs in at 260 with regulator and rectifier. I also shaved another 30 grams or so in wire and mounting hardware.

Just being a Seeley is a good start on weight reduction right there. Frame 25 lbs lighter than stock. Adding headers another

Total with half a tank of gas: 194.0 kgs.
Front: 95.5 kgs
Rear:  98.5 kgs
That means a 49.2 / 50.8 % balance.

OEM frame. Think can find a few ounces more, first need to get rid of these heavy disks.

Rob, was this weight with the self energizing ignition? How much is a half tank? My weight was with an empty fuel tank. My discs are most likely lighter than yours, but my carbs would balance that out.

Got a newtome Aluminum tank this weekend. Will fit an AMEN frame, its from an RM? 125 I think.
Weighs 3 ish lbs with petcock and cap, TL Honda one weighs about 4 ish. Think the TL holds abour 1.2 gallons, The RM  looks like a bit more.
Anyone got a weight on a stock 750 tank, with petcock and cap ?. I am think at least 10 lbs..

I have a K7 tank I can weigh. I think the alloy Seeley tank is 7-8 pounds?

No self energizing ignition, but with very light battery and Accent ignition. No generator. About 8 kgs of fuel in tank. Disks are thinned and drilled.

Cheers, Rob

Frank, K7 fuel tank with cap and petcock is 10-11 pounds; good guess.
BTW, I also weighed a K7 oil tank on the accurate scale at a smidge over 3 pounds, but I'm guessing a K1 tank is heavier. The big chrome cap/dipstick alone has to weigh more than the K7 plastic one!
Rob, so no rotor at all, correct? Field and stator are worth over 5 pounds, (I have more exact numbers in grams, but did not bring them home), and rotor is, what, about 5 pounds? The one disc I weighed was 2011 grams.

I finally got around to making a new starter plug to replace the expandable rubber freeze plug. The new one weighs 14 grams, and the old one is 44.6.
I also found that a K1 front axle is 26 grams lighter than a K7 axle. Every little bit helps! ;D

Made some new chain adjusters for the test-rig. Combo of 6082 adjusters from Kevin @ TTR400 and 7075 adjusterblocks and 2011 bolt. Together with the hollow axle a considerable weight loss.
Will weigh the assy's in the coming days.

What is 6082?
Been working on new rear-sets: the old right side, with the Seeley mounting plate, John Tickle peg, brake lever and linkage, plus generic passenger peg weighs 3.4 pounds. The left side weighs 2.6 pounds. I think I can shave more than a few grams off here... ;)

Thanks Mick!! I have experience with 6061 T-6, and 7075, but never heard of 6082. That link also explained the difference between T-6 and T-651. I have been wondering about that for a while now.

I decided to give cutting my old K1 rotor down a try. Made a tapered arbor (6 degrees, BTW), studied the relationship between the field coil, the rotor, and the stator, and started making chips. The net result is 223 grams lighter than the K7 rotor I have been running, and I believe there will be little or no loss in charging.

You forgot the big bevel on the inner snout. Then drill out the starter clutch holes to 3/7" and then drill another in between,  6 holes

I didn't drill out the clutch holes, as I think this would reduce the charging. This is a major path for the magnetic flux from the field through the rotor, the same reason I only beveled the outside edge and not the inside edge. I did put a large bevel on the inner snout.

Since I had the alternator and shifter covers off already, I cut down my spare K7 shifter cover, CR style, and filed off the asinine shift pattern. (The "Kickstarter" label is even more asinine!!  ::)) The result was another 110 grams off. Now to get back to the rearsets...
