Will shoot a pic of the rear axle & chainadjuster setup that I am using now on my Endurance racer. Will weigh it compared to oem setup.

I've made some progress with the new rear-sets; the right side mount is mostly done. 260 grams. I'm guessing I'll shave 2 pounds off the right side alone! ;D I machined most of both the right and left sides together, so the left mount is not far behind.

Got the new rear-sets done, other than fine tuning. Ended up shaving 3.72 lbs of the old setup. This brings the total weight reduction since the last weigh-in to 6.05 pounds. BTW, the shifter rod was made from an old VW push-rod. It weighs 18 grams!

After a unwillingly time off, glad to have done some work for customers and myself.
Still participate in a 3hr endurance race-demo event have done some work and fine-tuning to the racer.
Changed the chain adjustment for a (much) lighter version.

OEM adjuster with bolt from JOKER.

Aluminium adjuster with Ti bolt and nut.
Also changed the bolt and stopper. Not weighed the oem bolt, but made my own aluminium ones from 6082 and they weigh only 7.9 gramm.
The steel OEM stopper weighed 50.7 grammm and the one I made out of 7075 only 19.1 gramm.
In total a reduction of 465.2 gr vs 175 gr for both sides. Together with the hollow rearaxle is very considerable. Will weigh the axles tomorrow.

Time to update this thread. At last report, the weight was down to 401 pounds, but there have been some additions as well as reductions over the last few years. The bike now has a fairing, decent bar-end mirrors, a grab-bar to help tie down loads, and the most recent addition is a functioning electric starter. The current weight is 416 pounds with oil, but no gas. ;D

Those are very nice Scott.  Building them for others would probably be a labor intensive operation unless you could load up the CNC mill and hit start a few times to knock them out...

The rear-sets were more a labor of love, David, like lightening the starter housing and battery box. ;)

Very impressive for a bike with a fairing, too.  My FZ09 is 414 wet with a full tank of gas.

Very slick and trick...
it is good that the coils don't use the case as part of the magnetic field or your lightening did not reduce the starter torque enough to negatively affect its operation.

The guy that owned my drag bike didn't use rear sets, he put rear pegs on the swing arm and shifted with his hand. Track only of course unless he was terrorizing the local street scene. There is a lot of good info and trick parts here. I'm impressed.

It is shocking how much weight loss you had in the adjusters Voxvonda...what were your axles made of and what did they weigh before and after?  Presuming stock 750 axle was your start point.

I am thinking a good 320mm may stop pretty good and save weight.
Ducati steel centre take-off 320mm, 6 bolt, looks just under 4 lbs.
Weighed a 2 piston caliper single acting3 lbs or under.

With a single 320mm Ducati rotor and 32mm 2 piston Honda caliper, I had excellent braking and reduced the weight to 404 pounds while retaining the electric starter.
You were right, Frank. RIP

What fork legs did you use? Look to be from the early 80s, to use the brake caliper and mount?

Frank had convinced me to pick up a Ducati rotor for my K8 back when prices were still low.

Not sure, I think they used the same 320mm floater with 6 bolt mount on quite a few models.

Ducati ran the 80mm PCD 6-bolt w/64mm hole and 15mm offset on everything in the 90’s up through the 996. I believe when you get into the 998 it changes to an 11mm offset and with the 999 went to the 5-bolt they have now. The common Ducati disc is also common to many of the 90’s FZR models as well.

I just played this game because I was hoping to use Ducati discs on my new Dymags, but after 6.5 months of waiting for them they showed up with a different mounting pattern than we’d agreed to and I had to scramble for something else.

FWIW: After getting new wheels on and the starter motor off, the race Nighthawk is down to 353lbs. full wet. Like full enough that I was leaking gas from under the cap during hard braking in first practice with that much fuel in it; so call it 350lbs wet for any practical application.

The forks are 77/78 750 F. There is a thread on the tips and tricks board in the brakes section about using the '82 and up two piston calipers on the F forks, using stock Honda parts. I mention in that thread how to do it using a K spoke wheel instead of the F comstar, using thinned 550 275mm rotors..
The pic with the caliper on the right was from when I was first testing the two piston calipers; I first made an adapter to try the caliper on a Yamaha 298mm rotor, and compared the performance to the same rotor with a stock K7 42.8mm caliper. After proving the superior performance of the 2 piston caliper, I tried the larger Duc rotor, and after proving things out I moved the caliper and rotor to the left side.

I don't recall which Duc my rotor came from? I bought them from a member here for $75 for the pair, IIRC? He was upgrading to full floaters, which these apparently aren't? Both Ducati and Yamaha used the same 6 bolt pattern as the Hondas, but have a 3mm larger center hole, so a spacer with a centering lip as well as thickness to account for the lack of offset is needed.

Yes, but never needed to rely on it. I use the rear in the paddock more than I do on the track.
