Backrests and luggage rack fittings
« on: June 24, 2012, 05:58:43 PM »
Quick question, I tried searching and found nothing. I have a 1974 350f and I want to set up a backrest for the girl and a luggage rack on the back. What set ups would fit my model? It seems like nearly all 70's CBs and CB-fours had the same design for mounting, but I want to make certain beforehand.

I would show the specific backrest in question, but the forum doesnt allow me to post links? Is this a common thing or am I doing something wrong?

For some reason you have to have a certain amount of post. I think it is 6-10. I don't know the exact amount but not many

I have a luggage rack with removal sissybar (which I DO have removed) on my 72 350F. The mounting points for mine are at the upper shock mounts, there are "ears" or "slotted tabs" on the luggage rack like the ones on the stock chrome grab bar. Those go over the top of the current grab bar ears. There is enough thread on the upper stud to handle the extra thickness of metal. The second mount point is over the tubes that are on the current grab bar that have long bolts through them, the ones pretty much right above the tubular part of the rear blinkers. There are tubes on the luggage rack that go outboard of the current ones on the grab bar; you take out the grab bar bolts and use longer ones provided with the luggage rack to go through the rack and the grab bar tubes to the inside of the fender just like the grab bar ones did.

Now I know the next question you're gonna ask me...what the brand and model number is of the luggage rack. There's nothing marked on it and the seller I got it from on eBay about a year ago didn't know anything about it either. Sorry. I'd say just set up a daily email for 350F parts on eBay and scan it daily until one comes up. I didn't really think I'd use mine but bought it anyway when it came up figuring it would probably be a cold day in hades when one came up again. Glad I did buy it as I use it every day I ride the F to work for strapping down my stuff!

Thanks I can visualize where the mounting goes. I just dont want to have to buy something and have it be an inch off and its useless. Does your mounting look something similar to this?

Yes, similar to that.
