I've been searching the archives on the dual disc conversion for the CB550. I've got it all together on the bike and, sure enough, looks like i'll have to massage the geometry of the caliper mounting pivot in order to get the brake pads aligned parallel to the disc.

my question is what are my alternatives to getting this accomplished?

so far looking thru archives i see the following procedure:

- add washers to the top 2 points of the pivot mount and file the pin on the lower mount to adjust the angle.

i'd really rather not file the lower mount point, although i suppose if i file to far it can juts be turned around and try again for a second chance at a fitting.

can someone tell me if i am missing a good alternative here?

I cut the side of the pin on my 750 on a mill, and wore out a brand new end-mill in the process; the pin is very hard, and a file probably won't touch it. If you do have to move the pin out-ward to align the caliper with the disc, consider filing the boss on the fork leg. Otherwise, just shim the top 2 points.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
