Leaking engine at #2 -CB750K4
« on: April 16, 2006, 03:23:48 PM »
Hi all,
I replaced the headgasket last Fall as well as the valve oil seals and then ran the bike - still leaked very badly from #2 - see photo for site of leaking (as determined in a previous post). Today I pulled the engine again and opened up the valve cover....now the headgasket looks ok to me -see photo. But one thing thats different and it may or not matter but the 2 bolts (circles) havent different amounts of thread showing....perhaps tightened differently.....but would this make it leak at the place indicated! I dont know what these bolts do or if they have washers or what.....or where the oil is coming from! Anyone have any good ideas!? Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Andy

it looks to me like what is leaking is the round rubber gaskets under the cam towers. If you go to one of the online stores that has parts pictures it is gasket #91318-300-013.

Agreed, it'll most likely be the round rubber seals under the cam towers, if they aren't doing their job they'll allow oil to leak down between the cylinders exhaust ports and along the fins, quite common on our bikes.

Because they're under the cam towers, most people ignore them and replace the head and cam cover gaskets only. make sure you use a little sealant around their edges to ensure an oil tight seal. Cheers, Terry. ;D

G'Day Andy, yeah mate, Hylomar's good, also Threebond, and probably all the other "bonds" (Hondabond, Yamabond etc) too, although I haven't tried them. Cheers, Terry. ;D
